We need the coach to think about winning above what the fans think, winning will bring the fans.

I give McHale credit for that even though I don't agree with his decision.

Because a lot of Lin fans don't see the bigger picture. Coming off the bench is a "demotion" for them, even if it means Lin gets more touches, more usage rate, more points, more assists.

Manu Ginobli had the best season of his career the season he officially played 6th man for the Spurs.

I'm a Lin fan and I have to agree I think watching the 2nd unit being controlled by Lin is magical. its like Linsanity for a good 10minutes a game. Usually when I watch the Rockets I just cringe when the starters go to the bench. BUY when you have a guy like Lin controlling the 2nd unit they are almost unstoppable.

Let's be real. Every player wants to start. All fans want their favorite player to start. This will never change.

Come on. It is a demotion. He was starting and now he's not. It was more about them thinking Bev was giving them better minutes than them thinking that Lin would be better off as a 6th man.

It could be done by staggering minutes. Like last year, there were instances where it was Lin with the bench and 1 or 2 other starters. McHale just didn't do as much of it as many thought he should.

It won't be a massive improvement as one might think.

Bottom line is, Lin got demoted from his starting position.

Why else do players work so hard to earn a starting position?

Bev got upgraded and responded to the challenge, albeit its only pre-season against a Pacer's team that played quite poorly.

But, this debate is silly. It's clear Lin is starting.

Yes. Classic case of addition by subtraction.

His banning = GARM quality improves, if only slightly.

Calling this a demotion is just the negative way of looking at things.

Indeed, if anything we should see it as a promotion for Bev :D Trade value is skyrocketing with every game :D

Uhh because that what he is getting paid $20 million over the next two seasons for, not to be a borderline starter thats starting spot is being challenged

Exactly, some Bev fans want him to start, why is it irrational that some Lin fans want him to start.

I don't really care who starts to be honest... what I am concerned about is that we need Dwight to get going early in the game or he gets frustrated for the rest of the game... I am not confident that a line up of Bev and Harden can get him going...

I think this is a much more important issue... without Dwight no way we will win WCF...

last game we where lucky, the Pacers where shooting bricks... this Sunday game will be a different pacer team... just watch...

Love how everybody has these concrete facts like d Howard plays better with lin. Or whatever is the other side s opinion. We have only played 2 preseason games.

Umm we just saw one game so far that he started, and he was pretty good with the starters. How do you know how he will do this year? He's getting paid as an average starting PG, not a superstar.

I'm not, I've never been against Lin coming off the bench, but we need him and Howard on the floor for extended periods.

If it was any other starting pointguard in the NBA it would be a big deal but since its a meek asian guy he'll get over it.

You never saw Rudy T suddenly relegate his starting pointguard to the bench or JVG with rafer alston. Rick Adelman more or less had a starting pointguard who starts the game unless he is injured.

It's almost like a tradition in the NBA that the starter enjoys the trust, confidence and respect of his coach.

Did Ginobli get "demoted" when Popovich asked him to be the 6th man? The same season he had the best season of his career?
