I'm still wishfully hoping to see Aaron Brooks return to form of yester-year...what a sight to see AB coming off the bench and scoring in bunches averaging nearly 20 pts a game again! A guy can only dream
I don't know if you have noticed but there is no controversy. http://espn.go.com/nba/ http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/ http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/nba/?eref=sinav http://www.hoopsworld.com/ http://dimemag.com/category/latest-news/ Do you know why? Its the same reason no one cared about Jones starting over Dmo. Because the majority of the NBA media and fan base doesn't care about a starting lineup change of the 5th best player of a team in a preseason game. The only people who think this is a controversy are Lin groupies. Kevin McHale's job isn't to mold public opinion or do marketing. His job is to put his players in a position to win the most basketball games.
The cost of shifting minutes while starting Lin would be essentially zero. So from a business perspective, if the only purpose was to gauge Beverley vs Lin, it is a decision that costs something while gaining nothing. That makes it bone-headed. If there was another purpose, for example light a fire under Lin, reward Beverley for work, prepare fans for the already decided on switch, etc. then the decision is more arguable. That's not what he said to the press, but what he says to the press isn't necessarily what is going on internally.
I´ve found most asian fans to be very reasonable and understanding. When we had Yao we had a lot of fans that knew his shortcoming and didn`t go crazy when something not ideal happened to him. They wanted Yao to succeed and they wanted to Rockets to succeed. I am sure the majority of asian fans don`t have a big problem with McHale trying out Lin as our big star of the bench.
Sure. Find us some Asian media that freaked out about Lin not starting. Bottom line is the only. Controversy that exists are on the few message boards created by a select few unintelligent Lin fanboys. Aka the rest of the world doesn't care.
The NBA has global games for marketing purposes. You read the English reports and they say the NBA players were mobbed, but Lin was mobbed more. This is hardly a suprise. When the whole purpose of playing in asia is marketing, benching Lin is a questionable decision... if he were normally a bench player, I wouldn't have been surprised if he had started in a preseason game in asia. It's not like it makes a huge difference to the Rockets, who can pull him after a few minutes and have him play the rest of the time with the bench.
There still is no controversy. Some fans might have been disappointed over there - perhaps a lot of fans. But they still got a great games with lots of stars and lots of minutes for Lin. I like it that our coach worries more about preparing for regular season than he does about pleasing fans.
d12 wont likely be very effective offensively without a pass first ball handler on the 1st unit but we need his energy more on defense. To me it would make more sense to bring Harden off the bench as far as "whats best for the team" but with politics and contracts that obv wouldn't ever happen. I think Lin will be great with the second unit.
You're personal opinion isn't the Gospel or the refelction of the entire/ collective Asian media as a whole.
You may be right. Care to elaborate? Do every body looks more man and handsome? Ladies take note when Lin is on the bench.
I would hardly argue that it was. And the reaction of the media, while important, is not as important as the reaction of the fans. They are two distinct groups. Honestly, it just seems obvious to me from a marketing perspective. It's optics, it has nothing to do with the game of basketball, and it only impacts a percentage of the fan base. But when you have millions of people, little percentages can make a big difference in dollars.
Holy moly. Man, any of the girls in this forum have more balls than u guys combined. You sound like you're about to slit your wrists after we beat the 2nd best team in the east by 20 feckin points. These 'woman scorned' posts are getting really awkward and weird, and not in a good way.
yea, but Harden will get his points, does't need Dwight. He forces alot of difficult shots and gets it.
It seems like you are just speculating what the fans think. How do you know they even cared he started or not because the stats sheets said he only played 3 less minutes than Beverly and they both had over 20 minutes of solid playing time.
no pressure? LOL the bench were stinking up for awhile with him in there. good thing they turned around sharply.
