I hope this finally exposes the Tea Party and they disappear from the limelight. It's clear these nut jobs are so dangerous to this country, and the American people know it. Hopefully they can finally walk back home with their tails between their legs and never try a stunt like this again.

They have single-handedly delivered a massive blow to the GOP. That's not necessarily good for a country that depends on a 2-party system. The disregard the Tea Party has for our gov't is disturbing at best. They are willing to toss the baby out with the bath water, and that doesn't make them patriots, it makes them reckless.

There are a significant percentage of the population that are supporters of the nuts, maybe 15-20%, which means they will not go away anytime soon.

If tea party supporters are at all representative of the people on my Facebook that post about them are not the brightest people amongst my friends.

It seems like it is a group of people that have interest in politics but are not of even average intelligence. And therefore will believe almost anything they read from a "source" as truth.

The way i see it the Koch bros. are throwing money down the drain.

The GOP it's the party of corporatist, banks, billionaire's, religious zealots and fools, and the religious zealots and fools are the base aka: Tea Party. It's a party that serves the one percent at the expense of 99% of their voter base.

To put it bluntly, any middle class American who votes Republican is either an Evangelical or has been duped. We're talking about people who believe they are informed because they read Drudge, watch Fox, and listen to Rush Limbaugh.

And their numbers shrink every day and every election cycle, which is why they are getting louder.

The Tea Party serves a purpose for the 1% that finance it. "All wars are economic" , "everything is always about the money", "if you want to know the motive behind anything, follow the money trail". The Tea party is all about controlling the the redistribution of wealth from the elite to the masses. It is about the constant fight from today and in the future, it is class warfare from the top side.

The bankrollers don't care if they look stupid or inconsistent, or poll low in popularity or even create negative effects for some. What they want is a passionate vocal minority that can continually obstruct taxation and wealth transfer by wedging the gears of government. The money they spend (hell FAUX makes money) is a calculated investment in future returns. Like all business investment it involves Public Relations, creating a desired perception, Legal Services, writing law, filing lawsuits and Political investment, buying influence and using it to perpetuate control. And as I have stated before, even as a vocal minority; loudly proclaiming the validity of a far right agenda allow them to move the center to the right.

It is class warfare, but human nature always results in class warfare.

[rquoter]AP sources: Boehner to ask for short debt increase

WASHINGTON (AP) — GOP aides say House Speaker John Boehner will ask House Republicans to approve a short-term extension of the government's ability to borrow to meet its bills.

The Ohio Republican is slated to urge his staunchly conservative GOP colleagues to act before the government runs out of borrowing authority next week.

Republicans have been insistent that budget cuts and other measures be added to the so-called debt ceiling legislation but the aides wouldn't say whether he'll seek to add other material to the measure.

The aides required anonymity to reveal the information before Boehner makes an announcement after a closed-door meeting with his GOP colleagues.[/rquoter]

This is very disturbing. There are plenty of sound reasons to be a Republican and there are a lot of good arguments for limiting the power of government, cutting regulation, and decentralizing power to the states. The problem is that there is such an emphasis placed on ideological purity in the current party that there is a race to the bottom among the Republican electorate. That has led to people like Michelle Bachmann getting to office and even prominence. As Sharon Angle and Christine O'Donnell showed such figures are not capable of winning broad elections yet are being put into positions because of ideological purity.

Great. Short term. So we get to go through all of this again in a few weeks.

I sure hope moderates kick many of the GOP law makers out of the office in 2014.

The longer this draws out the worse it's going to get for the gop in 2014. They can try and paint this as republican vs democrats all they want, but this is them versus Obama and last time I checked he wasn't up for re-election.

Using bigtexxx venacular; republicans cave on defunding Obamacare.

House GOPer: Defunding Obamacare Is 'Off The Table'

Rep. James Lankford (R-OK) acknowledged Thursday that defunding Obamacare is not going to be a part of the ongoing debate about re-opening the government and increasing the debt limit.

I honestly don't see the point in a short term extension to come back in two months and do this all over again. Maybe it buys Boehner time to reel in some of the Tea Party folks but I don't see how this really changes the fundamentals of killing Obamacare or slashing Social Security/Medicare.

Why go short term? Just by the act of going short term this way, you tell everyone that you are unwilling to reach default. The big mo just went to the Dems because now the leaders of the House and the Wall Street guys pulling some strings behind the scene admitted they aren't stone-cold crazy enough to intentionally wreck the economy. You can try it again in 6 weeks but your bluff will again be called.

Actually, the proposal is for 6 weeks. I wish it were for 2 months... or 3, or (golly!) for the remainder of this budget cycle. Looks like purely a face saving device by the Republican "leadership" (if one is willing to use that term when describing the current yahoos that lead the Republican Party), as they know they are quickly going down the toilet as the majority of American people, according to the polls, attempt to flush their mad extremism from the body politic. It does nothing to stop the government shutdown, the effect of which is now rippling through our economy and impacting a host of things, with the housing industry merely being one of the most obvious.

You mean that the balls-to-the-wall effort to defund lawfully-passed legislation, that withstood a presidential election and a Supreme Court case, which was doomed to failure to begin with because a Democratically-controlled Senate would never have passed such a measure in the face of a Democratic president who would never sign away his signature domestic achievement was, all along, fool's gold?

Well, I feel like we've been sold a false bill of goods!

Obama had to cave by giving the short-term window. He said he's negotiate if there was even a short term delay in the debt ceiling issue. Now the GOP can negotiate.

    Point --> GOP
