There is one big issue with this: Except for Malone and Eaton, none of those teams had a perimeter player as good as Harden, which means maybe our bigs don't have to score from the outside as much as those others. That is to say: Harden won't be as disrupted as the opponents offense will be by our Twin Tower defense.

    Let's run the list:

    • Dream and Thorpe (no guard close to Harden)
    • Duncan and Robinson (no guard close to Harden)
    • Ewing and Oakley (no guard close to Harden)
    • Malone and Eaton (Stockton)
    • M Gasol and Rand (no guard close to Harden)
    • P Gasol and kamen (haven't achieved jack **** yet. Keep the Lakers out of this discussion...umkay)

See. You are comparing twin tower teams who didn't have a Harden-level guard. So, obviously, those bigs (at least one of them) better be able to shoot a long 2.

With Harden, saying we are going to get clogged up, actually has no historical record, because I contend Lin and Harden will still have PnR room to operate with their speed and skill.

Anyone think Horace Grant was money from 18 feet during the first 3 rings? How about Bill Cartwright?

See, Grant and Cartwright did not clog up the lane for MJ, because MJ was just that good. Harden will be able to get into the lane, too. None of Htownballer38's list of historical big man tandems (except Utah) had a superstar guard on the team.

So, apples and oranges. No historical proof Asik and Howard will stop Harden from penetrating.

How many solid stretch 4's are there in the league to really hurt us offensively, and hold their own on D against either Omer or Dwight?

So you played in the pros?
At what level did I need to play to be qualified?

Agreed. Totally not serious past internet banter but you were the one getting personal.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you didnt play or dont play in the pros. After that its a slippery slope to 'how many rings do you have?' and then 'are you jordan?' come on dude you are better than that.

the free throw argument is so stupid makes my heart hurt. If we are going invoke it then we might as well get rid of all star howard.

So based on the sportswriters takes we should just not even have howard or asik at all. We should trade them for all free throw shooters or not even play asik or howard and lets forfeit.

This is cutting off the nose to spite the face.

I left out the key word "not"

I meant to type this. "But we do have historical record that says Stretch 4s are *not* going to be an automatic way to beat our defense."

I think even if, we get stuck in the free throw line. We would still dominate. They can only foul us so much and even if they foul us. We still have one or two best re-bounders in the NBA under the rim.

LOL why are you rolling your eyes. No I didnt play in the pros but I do understand fundamentals of basketball. And i believe you do to.

I never got personal, you took it as such when I asked, have you played the game before. That questions wasnt intended to discredit you not one bit.

Man I used players that are in comparison to our twin towers..So why are you bringing in the guard play. One of your big men still needs to be able to knock down a mid range shot IMO.

Harden just stepped into prime time, so let the man do what he did last season for multiple years. hahahahaah

Check that video that someone posted earlier of Asik highlights. Look at how well he played matching up against Anderson (the prototypical stretch 4).

Playing the Omer is trash on offense card, wouldnt it make more sense to *hide* him on offense with 4 great offensive guys in harden, lin, parsons, howard?

I mean a big part of why we (in my opinion) had delfino 'inside' was providing some offense inside (and outside) to offset the deficiencies in smith and asik. With that presence inside of howard that effectively *hides* what we were lacking before inside in asik and asik can go to work on the boards and defending.

Just a thought to counter the offense argument. Having asik out there on inside exclusively with 2nd unit give us less offensively *inside* overall. If asik is just the black hole or ****e on the inside then we need to hide him with an offense monster like dwight.

fair enough I apologize if I am being rude or came off that way.But you were saying... anyway its cool man. Internet fistbump we are rockets fans first. I think good heated argument is healthy for the team and if you want to talk crap about my mom it's cool and I will talk crap about your mom too. I still *internet* love you for being a rockets fan

sounds enticing and we run lin on 2nd unit I suppose?
Who is our inside guy when howard sits? What is our 2nd unit looking like? Who is our PF? Smith or Jones?

man you bet me to it, I apologize as well. So we good and you are right, we are all fans of the same team. Pimp we will have to internet fight around here if you talk about my mommas..bwhahahahhaha Hey a lil noise talking dont hurt no one, Well I hope.

I agree with that notion you stated in your 1st paragraph. But I want Asik with the 2nd unit to anchor the defense. In the 1st preseason game without Howard in the game they played terrible defensively.

But hey like yall stated though, it could work with him starting as well. Mchale's rotations will be key.

You do know freethrows can make you and brake you right..LOL

They lose by a point, but hmmmm we missed 12 free throws out of 25.

Hopefully Howard can use his method of closing his eyes,,since he went 8-10 with his eyes closed.. bwhahahaha

Howard is also "trash" on offense. He's just the best garbage man in the NBA. He's only great because he's great at cleaning up the scraps, not at creating his own shot nor jump shooting. Two garbage men on offense is problematic. One is fine. Dwight has yet to prove that last year's 0.7 Points Per Possession on post plays or something like that wasn't a fluke.

The question you should ask yourself is, what if this experiment actually wins us playoff rounds?

We would have to rely on Camby/Smith when Howard sits. I would hope this happens in February so it gives Camby enough time to come back. Ideally, we would need Camby for 10-15 MPG during the playoffs if this trade went down.

2nd unit would be lead by Jeremy Lin, Garcia, Brewer, Casspi, Camby, Smith

I think with our young core..they can play heavy minutes in the playoffs, but this bench is good enough to fill in.

Oh and yes, I would definitely want to start Jones, which might be the case anyways.

He's also good on the pick and roll--better than Asik because he has better hands and can jump for the alley-oop.
