You probably did too much weight. How much did you squat?

Funny that it would take getting to the 3rd page of this thread before anyone would mention the word protein.

You can work out all you want and it doesn't matter what your routine is because if you're not eating enough protein you won't add any muscle.

listen to pain, particularly joint related pain. I don't know how having knocked knees would impact it, but squats, particularly when you get to heavy weights can make even the smallest of imbalances surface. Perhaps better to do isolation type exercises like hamstring curls, leg extensions, but dont take my word for it, if you're really concerned read up, consult a physio about it

Will do. So I'll do isolation exercises like leg extensions and leg curls, but not leg press or squats.

You say listen to pain. How can I tell the difference between my body feeling sore the day after a workout (normal) or my body acting strangely (in my case, walking weirdly. Basically, what warning signs should i take caution from if I notice them after doing these leg workouts?

    --------------

-Side note- anyone know the best bang for your buck in regards to whey protein powder? I'm looking to spend about $50 for at least 5 lbs. I've found some, but they really lack in protein per scoop compared to the one I have now. I am currently using body fortress whey protein- which gives 60 g of protein per 2 scoops but other brands I've seen with big tubs only offer 48g per 2 scoops of protein.

Hopefully something that lasts close to 2 months if taking 3-5 times a week.

Y'all are just overwhelming him with information he can't process correctly because he's a beginner, in every sense of the word.

Don't listen to anyone here, until you know if it's a structural problem or just bad posture. Go see a physical therapist or MD. Preferably both, the more opinions the better.

Actually, I would get more enjoyment if the OP quit his lifting routine after a month.

Balls deep for two hours a day -- you must be in great shape, but do you ever find yourself bottoming out?

I would keep the leg isolation exercises to a minimum. If you really can't do squats (which i still disagree with) then it's still beneficial to do lunges, step ups and goblet squats. Go light for few weeks and focus on form/technique.

Also, looks like you were over emphasizing you curl workouts. I'd focus on back exercises and work a set or curls in at the end since you are beginning.

Like others have mentioned, I'd also recommend splitting up your workouts rather than doing 3 full body workouts a week. Resting muscle groups between workouts is important

    ^ Thanks.

But does anyone know of a good quality, high in protein, whey protein--5 or 10 lb tub, for a good price?

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015AQL1Q/

I use this one. It used to be 59.99 for the 5 lb unflavored. Whey prices are cyclical based on the commodity prices. Prices are much higher than from August, but not as high as they were in the summer around June and July.

It wasn't too much weight, it was poor technique. And I don't expect a complete beginner to be able to master the proper technique to do stuff like squats and deadlifts so I'd advise against him trying it right now. You need a trainer or very good observation to not hurt yourself doing these exercises.

whey gold standard is a good and pretty inexpensive protein...you can get 5 lb jugs for a little over $50. Extreme chocolate is all I've tried and it's pretty good. It has a pretty solid track record as far as brands go.

I always liked isopure zero carb but it's a bit more pricey and vanilla isn't for everyone's taste.
