I think McHale should give Bev a few "trial" starts towards the end of the preseason

That doesnt matter, Harden, Lin and Parson will run the pick n roll. Everybody knows who the offense will run through.

if Lin was the only one to suck in game 1 or stucked out like a sore thumb ok , but... the WHOLE TEAM SUCKED in the first game. Rockets play off jitters.

Yes, taking a PG you started in multiple playoff games and starting him in a preseason game or two is comparable to all of those scenarios you just proposed.

You have 17 posts. 17 of them are devoted to boosting Lin and taking shots at Beverley. Just be straight up and say you don't like him b/c you interpret people giving him any credit as criticizing Lin. I'd respect that more.

This type of **** is so transparent, and it's tired.

this is so bad. MJ, Kobe, Lebron never had PGs that have initiated the offense for the team. When you have a dominant wing player you usually don't want to have a dominant point guard but a big man

The team was pretty green; very young and had no playoffs starting experience whatsoever. It's totally understandable they didn't play well. Add to that, they were playing OKC, a great team that was very much battle tested. Lin played pretty fine the beginning of game 2 before his injury.

Lebron is a point forward. Let's face it, Harden isn't as good as LeBron. MJ and Kobe ran the triangle offense. Maybe McHale should hire Tex?

Read the post on previous page. Rocket's coaching staff this year wants the ball OUT of Harden's hands to allow for a "freer flowing offense" and Harden to focus more on D. If Beverley starts and has to run the offense Dwight would never touch the ball and every play would be an ISO.

I guess not everyone on Clutchfans knows the latest Rockets news.

Keep up to date, guys. This whole thread is worthless due to recent developments (i.e. asst. coach Chris Fitch's interview on "gameplan" for the Rockets offense this year). The question has already been answered.

Did anyone else notice in a couple of scrimmages Lin is on the bench squad going against beverly, dwight, chandler, harden, and a PF ? That cant be a total coincidence. In my opinion I think Lin off the bench with brewer, cassippi, jones, and Asik, would be great. But of course Lin should also get plenty of minutes with Howard & Parsons as well because of the good chemistry. But I don't mind him starting at all either, the coaches know best. It's just great how versatile our team is.

Beverley actually played substantial minutes with the starters sans Lin last game (roughly half the minutes Lin got). The "defensive impact" he made there was getting eaten alive by Evans play after play and leaving his bigs hanging a couple of times. He did play some good one-on-one defense with the bench though when the Pelicans' offense became stagnant, but his defense in non-iso situations was, to put it mildly, bad. When he got picked and his big helped him, he couldn't do jack to help his big recover and just trailed his own man for no apparent purpose.

Also despite all the offensive theorycrafting, the notion of Beverley being the better offensive fit with Howard+Harden has pretty much fell flat on its face so far, and not just from the scrimmage footage. Like this last game as somebody I don't remember who pointed out somewhere, Harden shot 67% with Lin running the offense, but missed every single one of his shots with Beverley running the offense last game. Howard was also +16 with Lin and -5 with Beverley.

It's still early, but so far this Beverley as the superior starter fit thing is looking like pure fiction out of somebody's fancy. The starting unit has been worse on both ends of the floor with Beverley.

He is not a starter quality PG in this league. If Lin doesn't work out this season, watch Morey trade for another starting PG.

Regardless of all that you mentioned, Harden is our best wing player, he's going to have the ball in his hands more than anyone on the team. This is just a fact, sorry if that saddens you.

the only thing clear is that he's getting paid like a starter, but as of having the starting position locked up, that's still up in the air--and i'm glad McHale is putting that out there cause Beverley has proven that he can more than hold his own.

Let it be up for grabs, competition is good.

But he's not looking at anyone else's performance cuz that was just jitters. Lin gets no excuse. Ever.

None of that matters, cuz Lin is not a good fit, period. No need to think this out logically or use stats or the eye test cuz it doesn't matter. Lin is not a good fit cuz he can't shoot the 3 ball. And if he can, then it's cuz he drives too much.

DON'T do it. His performance thus far (one game) has not been amazing, but it is night and day compared to his preseason last year. I don't want him to revert back to that just because Coach decided to test bench him for a few games.

This same old discussion gets old. Beverley is a very good backup because of the pressure he puts on the ball and that's the only ability he has that is above average. I hope he does show an improvement over last year, and continues to get better. That being said he isn't in the same class as Lin, Lin is the starter plain and simple.

But he is the one you want guarding the other starter quality PG's in this league. Start him.
