What do you think is ultimately the best scenario for us to be able to watch the Rockets games this season?
An agreement outside of court. What I'm really unclear on is whether CSN Houston can make it with only the Rockets broadcast rights. My hunch is no. And that was affirmed a bit when Comcast called the Astros broadcast rights an "indispensable asset" in their Motion to Appoint Trustee. Aside from the Lakers, I'm not sure there's an NBA team capable of sustaining an RSN right now...no matter how good the product is on the court. It's just simple math, because it only accounts for 82 nights of programming. Now would be a good time for Les to buy an NHL team and move them to town!
Quit being a Crane apologist.... The Rockets and Astros were partners before that jackass came along. He wants top dollar for a crappy product.
I'm not a Crane apologist. I want the Astros to have the same streams of revenue that other teams in their division have. That won't happen with the Angels because of the size of that market. But having a deal comparable to what the Rangers and Mariners have needs to happen. This isn't a league with a salary cap and extensive revenue sharing. There are haves and have-nots.
With a 0 TV rating, the Astros don't deserve the same amount of money others are getting. Drayton had plenty of years where the team was competitive without the broadcast revenue that Crane is asking for. Crane is a broke dick owner trying to squeeze every nickel he can.
That's because the broadcast revenue for his competitors hadn't increased the same way. What the Astros are asking for is what other teams are getting. The Mariners and Padres got killer deals. Those teams have franchise histories that are on par with the Astros. You don't sign 20 year deals and assign value based on the fact the team is rebuilding when you sign them. Bottom line is the Astros are a private entity trying to maximize profits...with responsibilities to creditors and investors....like every other private company.
So you believe Crane should value his TV rights for the next 20 years based on when they are valued the least? You'd make a terrible businessman.
Do you completely lack the ability to look past this season? As has been explained by all sides...this isn't about what's happening right now to the Astros or the Rockets. This is about the next 20 years.
looks like the reason csn filed the complaint is because the astros and rockets took part of the $100MM in bad faith.
I get that but when you make an f'n mess out of the team. Then you alienate your fan base asking them to write 10 million dollar checks to get additional players while you have the lowest payroll in MLB, you aren't going garner much confidence from anyone that you will do the right thing down the road.
the astros and rockets borrow $100MM from the parent, then hardline the other providers and tell the parents we can't pay because we don't have agreements with directv. so the parent says fine, we will take you to court, take away the asset of broadcasting rights, settle this with the other providers by making the deal themselves.
And meanwhile because he has no money, so he puts a garbage team on the field year after year destroying his fan base.
There's no allegation of bad faith at all. Comcast makes it clear they're not alleging that, and goes through pages of case law of why this fits the exception of cases where there isn't bad faith.
The garbage team was part of the plan - it's not being done because there is no money. It's being done because they are rebuilding the farm, and part of that is trading major league talent for minor league talent. "year after year" is 2 years, by the way.
From what's being said, the Rockets aren't the ones who are using the hardline tactic. It's the Astros.
He has a garbage team because he traded away all the vets to make sure he could restock a minor league system that was literally bare when he inherited it. You can't win in the majors with a bare minor league system.
