Forget this notion that if you don't preform best in high stress situations you are less of a player. LA failed for not adapting to his style. All that cockiness for nothing.
Heres a fun thought to think about. What if we become the new Lakers franchise in terms of rings and champions. Their reign as one of the best dynasty is coming to a close.
I'd be happy to overtake the Pistons and Spurs for championship pedigree. Pistons is easy... The Spurs on the other hand have a great reputation and legacy over the past 15 years. If we can overtake them, then we only have Celtics and Lakers legacies to overtake (Bulls don't count because that was a Player and not a franchise).
yeah I've been saying the exact same thing to some Bulls fans, "If you didn't have MJ would you really have won 6". The Spurs even though drafted Duncan still built their team by drafting Parker and Ginobili. It should take about 2-3 more rings to overtake the Spurs and Pistons. You've already mentioned the reason for the Spurs but the Pistons have been dominant for a few eras: Isiah Thomas's Bad Boys and the Chauncey's team in the 2000s.
Yes. I'm a big fan of the bad boy Spurs, since I don't care much for the Bulls. The 04 Pistons were great, and while they were not a "dynasty", they were a constant powerhouse for about 4 seasons straight. And also finally the team to break the Western dominance over the East.
Wait. In what world do Parker and Ginobili win a title without Duncan? The Spurs titles are as Duncancentric as are the Bulls' Jordancentric, despite Parker being their go to guy now.
No one is saying that TP/Parker would win without Duncan. It's more the fact that the Spurs have managed the franchise well in order to become successful. Had they decided to tank in a different year (and not be in the Duncan draft), most people would assume that the Spurs would have drafted well either way, and find a way to be successful. As for the bulls, they were an awful franchise before MJ came along. Use the same example as above... What if they did not have the 3rd pick in '84? What if Blazer's weren't stupid and drafted Jordan and the bulls had Bowie instead? What if they had Jordan but not Scottie? Could you imagine the franchise pulling the right levers to be successful? I will give the Bulls this. They did a great job in assembling the 96 team with ONE great acquisition.... Rodman. Other than that, they are not a franchise who "alone" have a great legacy. They completely collapsed after the MJ/Scottie era (maybe blame Jay Williams' for riding a motorbike against team policy), but they could not recover either way. Not the way the Lakers keep recovering from short rebuilds... or the Spurs never even rebuilding at all, or Celtics' return from the wilderness with the Garnet era. I guess we'll see if the Rose era proves this wrong.
I think the Bulls count. It's not fair to them to say "nope" and not include them with the celtics, lakers, and spurs.
