What really seems to get lost in the charge to kill Obamacare is that there is no alternative Republican plan for health care. Their plan continues to be if you get sick, go to the emergency room or die quickly. Medical bills are the number one cause of personal bankruptcy in America. Republicans have nothing to offer, literally nothing. That the poor conservatives of the South continue to vote against their own economic interest is mind boggling and hurts these people tremendously. The Republican spin machine is hurting their own constituency with this grandstanding and political theatrics. It's shameful.

So, she retired at 60? Odd, that is kinda early. Seems like she should work till 65 until she is eligible for medicare.

Texas teachers anyway, reach retirement eligibility when their years of service plus their age equal 80.

Interesting tidbit on the debt ceiling. Apparently in the 80s, Democrats got rid of the vote and combined it with the budget. (so whenever you voted on a budget you automatically raised the debt ceiling with it) When Republicans took the house back in 1995, they brought back the separate debt ceiling vote that we're now stuck with.

    New poll today

Republican disapproval grows in budget battle

Disapproval of congressional Republicans’ budget wrangling after a weeklong shutdown has shot up to 70 percent, with 51 percent disapproving “strongly,” according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll.

At the same time, President Obama’s approval rating has ticked up due to improved marks among moderate Democrats and independents.

Boehner is spineless. He will only do do when his masters on Wall Street put enough pressure. Tea party activists and their puppets can inflict as much damage to our economic system as terrorists.

requires the exact same resources (money and manpower) and delegating these things is what we are talking about.

im guessing you didnt watch 60 minutes last night where the government investigator believes up to 50% of those on disability are fraudulent and he pointed to one kentucky lawyer eric conn and has having added over $500 million in future payments while collecting over $12 million in fees thanks to one judge he had close ties with. Over 1800 cases last year alone without a loss.

60 minutes was talking with social security workers who joked that the town in kentucky had no economy until disability checks went out and the funniest part of it all was at the scummy attorneys trailer office for disabled people........he had 1 handicap spot lol 60 minutes cracks me up

god forbid anyone say anything or they're racist but even the SS workers said that most people were on disability because their unemployment ran out!!!! So scamming the system and we can't do a thing about it!!!

It's awesome we paid eric conn $12 million dollars as tax payers to defraud us of our own money!!!

Security is an essential government function whereas maintenance is non-essential. They're still allowed to pay for the one but not the other. The shutdown is pretty messed up.

And, of course, yeah probably the Admin is interpreting the shutdown in ways to maximize its visibility to voters so they can see the damage the tea party has wrought. Just like the House republicans are trying to pass piece-meal funding legislation to minimize the visibility. It's just a little political game. War memorials, back paths, and the like are pretty small potatoes compared to Obamacare, debt ceilings, and federal budgets.

If this is true then the attorney and said judge need to be investigated by the FBI but what does this story have to do with the price of rice in China?

A lot of your details are wrong, what else would we expect from such a brilliant poster. However, one key detail you left out is where this is happening. eddie, I don't know if you've ever been to the Kentucky/West Virginia area but in my experience it's not very populated with blacks or latinos and I'm certain the demographic data will back that up. Kind of doesn't fit into the minorities are lazy, stupid bums story you've been promoting here.

Coburn says disability payments are now propping up the economy in some of the poorest regions in the country. Which is why he sent his investigators to the border area of Kentucky and West Virginia.

More than a quarter of a million people in this area are on disability -- 10 to 15 percent of the population -- about three times the national average
. Jennifer Griffith and Sarah Carver processed disability claims at the Social Security regional office in Huntington, West Virginia.

This nitpicking over what is closed and what is open is equivalent to shooting someone in the gut and criticizing the way they scream and moan. tallanacommodore: "Technically you shouldn't have soiled yourself, since I didn't shoot you in the large intestine."

Its not a complaint over what is and isn't closed. It is spending taxpayer money to inconvenience citizens. Or as JuanValdez says:

YEah its just basic politics to try and **** taxpayers with their own money as much as possible. no foul here.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

No the politics BS came when one group of one party decided to shut down the govt. Without that none of this other stuff would even be being talked about.

Doc Tal, you're having some difficulty grabbing some of the relevant facts in this case.

tallanvor, the overwhelming foul is applying extortion to the normal legislative process, our democracy, and the nation.

An attack on our democracy is overwhelmingly more important than any details of the implementation of a government scale-back/shutdown/etc/etc.

I stand by my position. Congressional republicans have gut shot the federal government (which they were elected to participate in) and now stand critiquing the reaction of the government's operating bodies. "Oh, it doesn't hurt that bad -- you're just making a big show. I didn't use that big of a bullet."

Ridiculous, but once you've doubled down on this radical agenda, I recognize you and yours don't have a lot of turf left to play with. It's pretty damned Orwellian, (except Orwell's prose was better than the GOP's and his ideas much more clever, to be frank about it).

EDIT: if you want to be outraged about government expenditures, start with the House of Representatives drawing any pay whatsoever when they refuse to take another vote, given the existing votes to move past this nonsense.
