throwing the defense under the bus certainly didn't endear him. defense won't publicly state it, but they're getting tired of both kubiak and schaub.
Really looking forward to today's press conference. What are the odds someone asks Kubiak about his halftime comments to Michelle Tafoya. I'd say they're about as good as Yates starting next week.
yup... hard not to notice that damn near everytime schaub gets questioned it's always we have to get better, it's all of us, it's starts with the whole team, this is a team game blah blah blah. kubiak has coddled this guy and it's going to alienate the entire team. to think that kubiak essentially threw the whole rest of the team under the bus - again - just so his qb can save face is pathetic.
what's the gm and owner doing? ultimately it's the gm's job to build the team. major change needed because I don't think Schaub can recover from this.
therein lies the rub - gary hired rick smith. essentially, gary was allowed to hire his own boss. that should tell you all you need to know in regards to the total lack of accountability. how many times does this team need to suffer through total ineptness before mcnair makes a change??? from car and capers and casserly to bush and marciano and now shaub... . i think it's perfectly valid to question ownerships true motivations here. this is an organization ripe with nepotism across the board. performance on the field clearly comes second behind protecting each other.
He hadn't lost the team, no. But maybe he has now. Or soon will. Calling out the D, not holding Schaub accountable. That'll backfire, big. But the team has played so well IMO (minus Schaub) amidst adversity. The D plays hard. Foster plays hard. The o-line is not as talented as years past but they're playing hard. This team is fighting, and it's very vocal on defense too. I almost feel like this group of professionals can just coach themselves. You don't always need a boss when you have the same goals.
Press conference about to start. If Kubes did real SWOT analysis he would see the light. Strength - Defense and Running Game Weakness - QB and ST Opportunities - Weaker schedule coming up including bye. Don't lose team, salvage season. Threats - Losing the team, ending your season. Colts taking control of division, no sign of letting up.
Players definitely seem to love playing for Kubiak. Despite that absolutely horrid 'other problems than Schaub' comment on national TV - which, if anything starts to 'turn' the team against him it will be that - I have a hard time believing he's already lost them. They think they can win with Kubiak, and they probably could. But Kubiak clinging to aspects of the team that are failing - like Schaub and Marciano - will probably do more damage to him in the long run than the risk of 'losing players'.
He's on the verge I think. Truth be told, the defense is probably playing more for Wade Phillips then Kubiak. But I think more then a few of the vets still respect and feel Kubiak is a good coach, even though they know which is the side of the ball he prefers to work more hands on with. The division is probably going to come from Matt Schaub, if he continues to be a liability and Kubiak does nothing, then he loses the team. More then a few guys came to this team because they wanted to be on a contender, if the weak point of the team is still getting the pass to be out there when Kubiak has shown in the past willingness to yank guys for lesser mistakes I think the defense players won't be the only ones he loses the support of...
one thing about the defense that irks me is that although they make stops they don't create turnovers. couple that with Schaub's INTs and it's blowouts galore.
the season isn't over, i see no problem with starting schaub next game, now if they lose and he performs terribly its probably time to bench him. if he doesn't believe in his backups which probably is part of the issue, than i can't blame him. he has to back his guy up. that being said, i've been ready for yates for two seasons
One of Kubiak's strengths over the years was keeping the players on board even when games weren't meaningful. But after this debacle, that may be out the window. We'll find out for sure after the bye week.
Anyone who's watched enough pro football can recognize a team that's fractured, can recognize a team that has given up, can recognize a QB that is washed up, and can recognize a head coach who's going to be fired after the season. What part of this narrative is unique other than the Texans' were fool's gold?
They are talented enough, that doesn't make them fool's gold. When your coach is constantly coaching not to lose (kicking FGs all the time, never taking ANY chances) that is what creates a loser. I think Carolina's coach is the same way. He never goes for 4th and 1 with arguably the best player in the NFL @ getting 1 yard (Newton). When you have a GREAT defense, you take a lot of chances (like the Ravens did last year). Long throws, if they get picks that is fine in that situation. You'll score more points than you give up as a result of that.
