Do not agree with 3 completely. He should not be looking for post ups or to create his own shots when Howard and Harden are on the floor. DMo should be looking for his own shot via cuts or spot ups.

Lin was trapped in the Miami game. Marv Alpert said that they were trapping him. Frankly, Lin looked worse because of this. Holiday was not trapped or doubled teamed.

Is Asik really injured? I don't think Dwight likes him.

I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask this question, but if anyone can help, I'd really appreciate it.

Every season, I load up on in-game photos that I find on the Internet and save them to my HD. I link my screensaver to draw from this folder and continue to add photos as the season progresses. In the past, I used to find some on Yahoo! and Bleacher Report, but I guess due to copyrights they're no longer available.

If anyone knows any good sites (paid or free) to pick up frequently updated and preferably high-quality photos, please let me know.

Lin is still falling hard. Can't be good for his longevity.

Yeah, he got to learn not to take such a hard hit against the floor!

Also, he needs to control his speed as well, its kinda scary to see him run that fast (not discrediting him, obviously the fastest on the floor), but just saying its kinda dangerous.

You are straight up lying. A bold faced lie to back up your misconceived preconceptions. You never watched Lin play. You probably only just watched the Miami game. Show me 10 instances of Lin being pickpocketed outside of that Miami game and I will never argue with you again. I doubt you'd find 5. EVERY game, my a$$. Shoot, if a pg got pickpocketed every hand or even half of his games or even a third, I'd hate him too. And after the first couple of games, everyone was out to get Lin to see who would "expose"
Lin like it were a Gladiator event. And he shat on most of those teams. Even Deron in his payback game was getting stripped and blown by multiple time with Lin getting like 18 and 8 and just cuz he got hot and hit like 4 3s from way deep though he couldn't penetrate once and got stripped twice, haters like you were on the internet rejoicing and dogging Lin. I hate posters like you.

Regarding your first point, to be honest, I am unclear on the relationship between Ayer's conclusions regarding core 2 players combinations, and core 3 player combinations. Because, yes, your statement about 7.594 and 5.434 is right. The paper's conclusions about which player type combinations lead to increased wins (the coefficients), though, do account for talent level and coaching skill, as far as I understand.

    ---

For others who mentioned the paper since my post, there are number of ways in which I oversimplified and mangled the paper's conclusions in making my point last night. The most important thing to remember is that the paper is about core player type combinations that lead teams to exceed expectations. That is, if you have superstar players like Bosh, LeBron and Wade, it is not going to matter which player types they are. To give you an idea, the example Ayer gave at the conference for a classic team that exceeded expectations was Dwight Howard's Orlando Magic the year they reached the NBA Finals. The paper's conclusion is that certain player type combinations lead teams to perform better than you would expect based on talent/coaching, because of synergies created due to fit.

(Another way in which I mangled the paper is that our 4 position is clearly, at least not for now, not going to be part of the core of our starting group. It's a support role.)

FWIW, I have no horse in the TJones/DMo race. I think DMo did well in the first game. But for me it is too early to call.

Ah, I should have said the 4 is probably not going to be part of the core of our starting group.

Enough about the paper, resume basketball conversations.

Joe Joe, I meant to mention, yes, I agree with the above point. Synergy is one thing, but ultimately if you have a big talent difference, that is usually going to trump.

Lin did get manhandled in that game by Chalmers. Lin really cant go to the left. I got into it with some buddies of mine about that. It was until I went to several Rockets games last season when I notice what they were saying. Whenever the opposing PG forced him to the left dude would pick up his dribble. He would get trapped also whenever he went to the left. But whenever he went to the right, he wouldnt get trap or pick up his dribble. I dont know how to post those type of highlights .

And why do some of yall take things so personal on a sports blog. It is not that serious. everybody opinions are different and we all view the game very different.

That was definitely a horrible game. But, having someone constantly talking negatively of a Rockets player over and over again, then to make stuff up just to do so, is tiring. It really is. That was a bad game, and the first thing I thought of was that dude had shaky handles and he better work on it until because everyone was gonna try to rip him. But, there's criticizing and just straight up hating, and I don't believe that people would be less defensive if someone started trashing Harden by making stuff up about his past and act as if he knew everything. Last training camp was just as bad. I was shaking my head at Lin's mid range game and how lost and slow he looked out there, so it's not a matter of not accepting his bad games and getting defensive, it's the history of what guy has done and the fact that he had to resort to lying. And no that was not hyperbole. He acted as if he knew like he always does... Sigh~ The season's almost here and after a good game, I hate stupid and malicious negativity. Lin plays bad, or we lose a bad game, yeah, I would get it. People knee-jerk, it happens. But man, we had a good showing and I come on my site to relax and people are just talking out their behind and it's not a good feeling. How would you like to come on Clutchfans happy about what the team is doing and constantly have to hear about how bad Harden is or how bad your favorite player is while using erroneous facts as if they were true. Anyways, point taken.

I'm not sure why people keep quoting that game. Lin had only played a few games as a Knick starter, and then came up against a Heat team that was determined to stamp him out (and even admitted it afterwards). There was speculation that Lin may have been a top 10 PG, but seriously, did anyone really expect him to be a complete player when he emerged?

It's because for a lot of people the ten games prior to that game and after that game was a fluke, and that single game was evidence of what a bad player he was.
