Huh? Come on now, you have got to be joking. The expectations of us winning a Superbowl isn't because of Kubiak (And I like him, even though I do second guess some things he does). The Superbowl aspirations come from us having a Superbowl caliber team. I know this is not going out on a limb, but if we had those two guys from New England (Coach, QB even though I root against them since spy gate) with this team, we would be by far the best team in the league. The way our defense has been playing, could you imagine putting up 35+ ppg. The point I'm trying to make is that in most cases the Coach and QB are the most important to win a Superbowl. One are the other has to be great, and we have two average to good (at best) guys in those spots. Which means everyone else on this team has to play lights out for us to win it all, because there's no room for error.
Schaub means our chances of winning it all are slim but not zero. Just calibrate expectations accordingly and you won't get mad.
No it definitely is because of Kubiak. Now it's a question on whether he's basically what Andy Reid was for the Eagles or if he's a coach that can actually win a superbowl.
I would LOVE to get Murray. SEC's all time leading passer. Plus the read-option guys are overhyped. The NFL has discovered how to defend that, and you're seeing those guys drop off.
Do you think it would help is Kubiak gave Schaub MORE AUDIBLE latitude? Free Schaub so to speak Dudes been in the league 10 yrs . . .you have to trust him to make the right call at the line sometimes Rocket River
There is a real possibility the Texans lose the division to the Colts and fail to make the playoffs. At that point I have to think Smith pushes McNair to dump tweedle dee and tweedle dum.
I disagree. We have high expectations of winning a Superbowl because of the talent we have. No one looks at this team and says "man those Texans are Superbowl contenders cause Kubiak is a great coach, and will take them there". They look at us and see that we have really good talent from top to bottom. Putting Cowher or Belichick as the Jaguars coach wouldn't make them contenders. You still have to have talent. Kubiak is a piece of the puzzle because he's the head coach, and has to make decisions to help us win. But to say the expectations of a Superbowl is because of him, I have to disagree. Heck, I think you my find more people to say he's holding us back , than you would people saying he's the reason we will make it to a Superbowl. I like Kubiak, and find myself defending him from people that says he's too conservative by saying, "maybe he's protecting Schaub with knowing his limitations". I just believe in our talent more than I do him.
I agree with Rocket River, I don't think its right that our fan base just unanimously hates the starting quarterback and that your picked on for showing the slightest bit of support to your favorite team's starting QB.
Coaching has a ton to do with coaching in football. The Pats don't have talent but they can make a great WR/QB out of anyone. This is NOT a coincidence. There is a reason why Pats lose people in the receiving game, plug them in and still continue to chug along. There is a reason why Kubiak has always have good running teams with the exception of a year or two. It's not some coincidence. It's because he knows what he's doing. There is also a reason why some players look like all-pros under one coach and scrubs under another. Coaching has A LOT to do with talent. Also, the coaches are right in there on draft day. It's not like Kubiak has no say on these things, in fact we know he has a lot of pull on draft day and so does every coach. Putting Belichick or Cowher in as HC of the Jaguars would make them a much better team because those coaches would have drafted better, groomed their players better, and coach overall better than whatever is going on there.
Ok. We can agree to disagree, but no one thinks of kubiak when the think of the Texans outside of Houston. As i stated before, we need a great coach or qb and both or average or good at best.
It really doesn't matter what anyone thinks. The guys that talk about football on the television are always talking about how Foster is a 'System' back. Which basically stands for "He wouldn't be much if he played elsewhere." and are always talking about how if you're a running back this is a place to play. If we're talking about fans then I'm not sure why it matters what they think about anything. Most NFL fans might not know who Dick Lebeau is (but will know who Polamalu is) but he's a huge reason why the Steelers are usually great defensively. Coaches in the NFL are extremely important. A team just doesn't win on talent alone. It just doesn't happen in the NFL. In fact a lot of teams win despite apparent talent (like the Patriots this year) Not only that, but coaches have a HUGE say in who is being drafted and who is playing AND in grooming the players. It's not a coincidence that once Wade came in here the defense looked markedly better WITH some of the same players. The difference is Wade understood how to actually use that talent, Wade was a big reason why they drafted Watt, etc etc. GMs in football are usually more about managing the cap and balancing the cap and figuring how much a player is worth. Coaches are in that war room drafting said talent too. If Kubiak is running a ZBS do you think he's consulting with Smith or Gibbs about it? He's consulting with Gibbs and Gibbs is telling him they should pick that Duane Brown Kid...and it's worked out for them.
Not just a possibility....... It will happen (losing the division) Unfortunately McNair will stick with dip**** and dip**** will stick with Schaub.
Simply because Schaub is the incumbent starting QB shouldn't make him your guy. Your guy should be the one that will make plays to win and not cost you the game. Schaub does neither of those. My guy can't be someone that has horrible defensive recognition. I can't have my guy not be allowed to audible out of any play given to him. I can't have my guy not be able to throw past the sticks for 1st downs because you're afraid he'll make a mistake. My guy isn't a game manager, He's a game winner. Schaub is your guy if mediocrity is fine with you. It isn't for me, and should be for you either. I would much rather go 10-6 with a guy that will blow the tops off of defenses, than go 12-4 with a guy that lays down before the sack even gets to him. Our team with Schaub will only go as far as this defense takes it, and defense simply can't win you every game.
im seriously praying for this game to a beat down... And if Kubiak has the nerve to start schaub next week against the Rams, he deserve to be fired...I am seriously hoping for another pick 6...Schaub is done in this city...and sadly a grade A defense deserves better than this
Shaub is not nor has he ever been my guy, you could see the signs of this happening years ago - but the team was better and it masked his deficiencies. He is just not good enough.....where is Haynesworth when you need him? DD
