The NFL announced today that the Texans game against the Chiefs on October 20 will now kickoff at 3:25 instead of noon.
That's awesome. CBS deciding to bump the Ravens-Steelers as the national game in favor of Texans-Chiefs. (are they moving the baltimore-Pittsburgh game to noon? Guess they have to as a corresponding move). Houston will now have TWO national Sunday 3pm games... this and the Patriots game at Reliant.
No. Ravens - Steelers game remains at 3:25. Here's the press release if you want to read it: http://nfllabor.files.wordpress.com/2013/10/week-7-texans-chiefs-game-moved1.pdf The Denver game in week 16 will also be a candidate to move to 3:25. Right now the late games are Oakland @ San Diego and Pittsburgh @ Green Bay. The Raiders will be out of the mix by then and Pittsburgh is looking pretty awful right now, so the Texans game could get the Nantz/Simms treatment.
Has this EVER happened before, pre-November? I can't ever remember it. Not counting games that had to be moved due to weather or a stadium being double booked for baseball. As I understood it, the flex window opened in November. It's just absurdly unfair to paying customers. I planned an entire weekend around flying to Missouri for the game, already bought game tickets and plane tickets, and now not only can I not go, but I won't even be able to see the game, period (my flight leaves out of KC at 5:30).
Why would they move the Denver game when they'll be resting their starters and we'll probably be out of the playoff chase by then?
Long story. Flights from Houston to KC are so outrageous ($444 the cheapest) that I'm flying out of Beaumont ($265). Of course, that means connecting in Dallas, and there aren't exactly many options to get from Dallas to Beaumont. Leaving KC at 5:30 is the latest possible on Sunday, and missing work on Monday isn't something I can do. I suppose I could try asking them to switch my entire itinerary from Beaumont to Houston, but A) I doubt they let me do that and B) even if they do, it'd be at the absurd $444 or higher rate, in which case I'd have never planned the trip in the first place. I mean, I understand the TV audience is a much bigger deal than traveling fans. I just honestly had no idea this was a possibility, or else I wouldn't have planned it. That's why I crossed November and December out entirely. Sucks to have to learn the hard way.
The Cat... Tweet or FB or whatever it is, the NFL and Chiefs and Texans. Sometimes stories like this spur action when people see them on social media. Good PR. Not a great chance of anyone caring but probably worth the try. And you do love to Tweet.
That really does suck. I would second what Ziggy says and maybe the NFL will hook you up and pay for your return flight at a later time or something. I don't recall this happening before but something tells me it probably has, because it seems like almost every week the 3:30 national TV game is a great matchup, and it's impossible to predict that ahead of the season so accurately (hence the SNF flex scheudling).
chiefs 4-0 not bad for a team that really seemed to be headed nowhere.. remember when everyone was like alex smith is a lateral move AT BEST..
I probably would have broken quite a few things if I was you, Cat. Man that sucks. I like the idea of tweeting it out there and seeing what happens.
