Current level of success probably doesn't have much to do with it unless a program is totally pathetic. The AD job at UT is a much bigger position than at Stanford and maybe it's big enough to lure him away if they want him. We'll see.
I agree, but still feel like the current regime has been hyper focused on running a business rather than a successful athletic program (again, measured in national/conference championships, not $). I understand that every program has its ups and downs, but I don't think that can explain the collective downfall of football, basketball, baseball, and track&field all at once. Not sure if its complacency, lack of accountability, or just not wanting to disturb the money machine. Not to imply that they are mutually exclusive, but I would hope that the next AD/football coach are focused on running a successful, clean program. If that means we have to lose the $15mm in LHN money every year or things like that, so be it. Any way, Oliver Luck seems like a strong candidate. Don't think I understand your first point, but I guess I don't see the UT AD job as vastly superior to the Stanford job. It's a larger business, sure, but Stanford is, on the whole, a more successful athletic program. I guess we will see if he is interested since he is being floated as the frontrunner for the job if he wants it. Pay sites also mentioning Steve Patterson (Former Rockets exec, UT Grad) and Bob Bowlsby (Big 12 commissioner).
But in the same article they said they would like to have the new AD hired by December 31st. I'm guessing once the new AD is on board DeLoss will not be making any decisions.
Am I misunderstanding this claim? What have I missed with Stanford? Football, basketball, baseball, Golf etc... Plus revenue all give a sizable advantage to UT from what I can tell. Maybe I should do some research but Stanford has not been as successful as UT... Have they?
If you look at all sports, they are consistently one of the best athletic programs in the country. Plus with the academic standards, you're getting really high quality kids, so you're not dealing as much with criminals, NCAA violations, etc. Notice Stanford's absurd ranking here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NACDA_Directors'_Cup#NCAA_Division_I
Anyone know of a good place to watch the Texas game tonight in the Dallas area? The Dallas Texas Exes Chapter is at Park Tavern, but looking at their website I don't feel it's a great venue for a football game. Any recs?
Word is that it could be a long night due to the weather. They're expecting thunderstorms, which likely means lightening delays.
And convenient excuses for Mack! "We just couldn't adjust to the lightning delays. We got out of our routine."
Seriously? Well, Mike Davis is from Dallas, after all. No ejection, either. <iframe class="vine-embed" src="https://vine.co/v/hgteApLUFTD/embed/simple" width="600" height="600" frameborder="0"></iframe><script async src="//platform.vine.co/static/scripts/embed.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
