Where do you pull those statements from?

Jones has good size, length, and athletic ability. I guess you haven't really watched Jones play, or else you would know that he has "real skill" actually.

Pat Pat would be an ideal 4 with Dwight

Home boy can rain 3s like no other, has good size and plenty of upside

Patterson did pretty well in his rookie year after paying his D-leauge dues. He actually regressed in his second year, probably due to recovery from injury.

Neither DMo nor Jones showed anything close to what Patterson did in his rookie year. But then, we knew Patterson was more NBA ready than most of these guys when we drafted him. So it doesn't mean that he had more potential. I do think that if DMo and Jones don't step up THIS SEASON to show that they belong in the NBA as rotation players, they'll be forever lost. So I'd say this season is a "big test" to those guys too.

    I actually agree with him.

This guy was supposed to be the second coming of Shawn Marion.

But he really has no defined skill besides that mid range jumper. His post game is off par, his defense is lacking, and even his rebounding wasn't at the level we expected.

I wish him the best but he really didn't have that great of a game after that knee injury he suffered, once that occurred it seemed like his explosiveness and aggressiveness went with it.

T-Jones is about the same height (slightly taller I'd say) but he can actually defend weak side, as well as man up in the post. He has great athleticism and timing for blocking shots plus is quick enough to nab a good amount of steals.

His offensive game could use a lot of help, from what everyone's been saying and from what we've seen during summer league he's made great strides in that department.

I believe he'll make us forget Ppatt after this season, but in Carl Herrera's heart of hearts we know he will always be our true starting PF.

    Sike.

Outside the exaggeration and including 3 point shooting, I think it is an adequate statement on PPat. One thing that PPat isn't generally given credit for is shot selection. He plays within his game and takes open shots which is a very valuable skill.

Patterson would be a good bench player. But I think DMO and jones both have starters potential due to their upside and skill sets.

Patterson was good at mid range most nights but he wasn't all that at anything else. Good solid player that I'd love to have off the bench, but the situation dictated that we move him.

Ryan Anderson? Steve Novak? Who are you describing? Are you drinking from Carl's overrunning cup?

PPat is fine, I'd like him back. In the rotation, not as an answer.

So, PP is a free (sic) agent next summer, yes? What contract do you offer him (if today were offering day)?

I'd offer 3/13. Tops. Not bad, not shabby. Not starter $$$s.

Pat Pat would be at his best playing next to Howard. He would stay out of the lane and pop 12-footers all game long. He's got a good head on his shoulders and his D is decent.

I've missed Pat Pat since the day he was traded.

I think the question should be rather... Going into next year assuming Asik is not traded, no deals are made for a PF, D-Mo/Jones/Smith do not grow into starting caliber PF's, and NO trades are made to free up cap space, the Rockets will have their tax payer exception to give.

I believe it would be something like 4 years, 22 million if I'm not mistaken. Here are some names to keep in mind at the PF spot probably hitting the free agent market-

    Not gonna happen-
    -Gasol
    -Nowitzki
    -Bosh
    -Z-Bo
    -Favors
    -Monroe

Players with player options that MIGHT consider become free agents-

    -Jerebko
    -Channing Frye
    -Darrell Arthur
    -Byron Mullens

PF's with a qualifying offer that will probably not be picked up & they will probably be free agents-

    -Patterson
    -Lavoy Allen
    -Ed Davis
    -Seraphin
    -Udoh

    Un-Restricted Veteran free agents-

    -Hawes
    -Humphries
    -Harrington
    -Villanueva
    -Jason Smith

    ...................................................................

So lets assume all of these things and the Rockets need to plug that hole with at PF long term using the mid-level. Which guys would be your target in free agency for that mid-level amount.

IMO, here is my ranking- (I'm not entirely sure any of these guys get the full 4 years 22 million as well)

    -Hawes
    -Jerebko
    -Patterson
    -Mullens
    -Frye

    Your thoughts?

He is smart. I like his three point range. I like that he doesn't force bad shots. I would not call his defense decent. He is good against PnR, denying cuts, and overall team defense. He is bad in the post and closing out on shooters. Rebounding is poor as well, but wouldn't matter as much with Howard and Asik. If the Rockets are going to get poor defense and little rebounding from the PF spot, they might as well play small and get some ball handling at the PF with the 3 point shooting.

Most times I would pull out the shot charts, the advanced and box score stats and the analysis to show that I am correct. I just do not care enough to spend a half an hour on it right now. You are, for a change, going to have to do the work to prove me wrong.

Did you watch him play? I don't find any credibility in your argument after you say he has below-average defence and can't hit threes. Especially the threes, he shot 39% last year... It is just flat not true. While talking about PPat, he also rebounded at a greater percentage in Sac when not playing next to Asik.

Edit: Wrong player, but TJones is still a stud.

Sigh. A couple of facts then as opposed to your opinion. Patterson's defensive xRAPM was -1.53(working from memory) last season. While that number is not absolutely horrible, it is also not good in any way.

Patterson is smart about the shots he takes. If he is pressured he will pass out. If you take a look at his shot chart it is easy to see that he hits an average number of corner threes. But they just are not contested. So he never receives the ball unless he is wide open, and then he does not shoot the three if it is contested. He only shot 1.7 threes a game last season (again from memory) which just means that he is easily chased off the shot. In the NBA you may get under 2 three point shots a game uncontested, but if you start taking more almost all of them will be contested.

What the shot chart tells me is that Patterson is a mid range jump shooter. Absolutely not what the Rockets need.

And Jones is not a stud IMHO.

Well if howard is posting up inside what we need is a mid range jump shooter. This allows good spacing for a Howard. This why robert horry was so successful with the dream.

Meh... I'd say more like 3/$10m. I'd take Carl Landry over him, and that's the deal that he got isn't it?

This thread was always funny to me.
