I've seen enough annoying biker mobs and critical mass events to know that there are a good chunk of cyclists and motorcyclists that for some reason think they are above the law since they aren't driving cars.
I agree on the 911 part. I seriously doubt they could have known who he was calling or if he was calling/talking to anyone. And more to the point – I seriously doubt his Range Rover didn’t have Bluetooth. And I’m sure he had it connected so you wouldn’t even see a handset except to dial. The most they could have seen was him dialing 9-1-1 which would have been so fast that I doubt they’d pick that up. IMO here’s how/what it went down. 1) Pack of bikers surround his vehicle getting rather close so he gives out a simple “hey” horn beep (not a big FU horn honk). I mean that is what horns are for, to let someone know you’re here. 2) Punk biker takes offense to the toot, jabbers at him while he rides up on him, then gets the bright idea to brake-check the SUV. 3) SUV hits biker. 4) SUV stops because of the accident. 5) Bikers surround SUV, slashed tires and beat on vehicle. 6) Driver fears for his life and runs. 7) His runflat tires won’t take the speed or distance he needs to truly get away 8) Stops and gets pummeled. My own personal feelings are: 1) The SUV driver was not at fault. He feared for his life and the lives of his family. NY law says if you fear for your life outside your home, your duty is to retreat and when you are surrounded, that is running for your life in any direction. Whether in D or R (R would have resulted in even more injuries), you have to flee. Running on foot and leaving your family behind is not an option. You must flee by D and go. Unfortunately that results in a serious injury to someone that pulled in front of the SUV. This is kind of like giving someone a ride to the bank but the person robs it, resulting in a shootout in which the driver is injured. Hang with the wrong crowd and bad stuff happens. Or as someone said, “Play stupid games, win stupid prizes”. Very true and appropriate 2) Motorcyclists are, for the most part, playing a very civil and defensive role on the street. They are normal people that like to ride. There are punks but I see those same punks driving, zipping in and out of traffic. This was a pack of punks that thought that their numbers made them own the street. They were in the wrong and any resulting injuries were caused by the group they were in. 3) The family sees dollar signs because of the vehicle he was driving. They will sue in a civil court. Some scumbag lawyer will gladly pick up the case with the hopes of his own fame and payday. The SUV driver is going to need a good lawyer because even with the video evidence, juries have sympathy when the “victim” stephen hawking’s his way in the courtroom. I still think he will be found innocent but it won’t be a slam dunk.
guess he wont have to worry about riding or driving anymore... All jokes aside, if you are cornered and the safety of you and your family is at risk, all reason/sanity goes out the window. These bikers were lucky that just one person got hurt. SUV:1 Bike:0

Yeah, I have a sedan and over the last few days, it's been crossing my mind while Im driving, what I would do in a situation like that. It would totally suck to try to get away and then get stuck, haha. My next car is definitely an SUV. :grin:

Vance Jr. Edwards had originally faced charges of reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and menacing, the New York City Police Department said. The incident involving bikers went viral after a video of the incident surfaced online. A helmet camera one of the bikers was wearing captured much of the incident, including when a biker walks up to the SUV and smashes a window with a helmet. Motorcycles, SUV clash on NYC streets Police said the incident began when a man driving his wife and 2-year-old daughter in a Range Rover struck a motorcyclist riding with a large group of fellow bikers on Manhattan's West Side Highway. The biker who was struck by the SUV, 28-year-old Christopher Cruz, was later arrested and faces charges that include reckless endangerment, reckless driving and endangering the welfare of a child, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said Tuesday. After hitting the biker, the SUV driver pulled over and the motorcyclists surrounded his vehicle, hitting it and spiking the tires, police said. The driver then pulled away, hitting three more bikers in the process, police said. One of those hit, Edwin Mieses, 32, is paralyzed and in a coma, his family told CNN affiliate WBZ. "All of his ribs are fractured," Mieses' mother, Yolanda Santiago, told WBZ, "his lungs are so badly bruised that he's still on a ventilator." Mieses' wife, Dayana, told CNN affiliate WCBS that her husband had gotten off his bike to help Cruz, but was hit by the SUV driver as he drove off. The hospital where Mieses was being treated did not respond to CNN inquiries about his condition. Police said the biker group, called "Hollywood Stuntz," chased the driver, whose flat tired forced him to stop. Cornered, the SUV driver was beaten, according to police. He was later treated at a hospital for slashes to his face and released. Neither his wife nor his child was hurt. "I don't condone the violence, there's no need for it," Mieses' sister Margie Mejia told WBZ, but "I'm glad they chased him down and they stopped him." Police say the same group of bikers descended on New York City and clogged Times Square last year in what Kelly said was a "major stunt event." Authorities say they prevented the group from entering Times Square this year. Police arrested 15 bikers Sunday, seized 55 bikes and wrote 68 summons for various violations. They are looking at video to try to determine whether any other charges will be filed in the incident. On whether it was legal for the SUV driver to leave the scene after hitting the first motorcyclist, Kelly said Tuesday that "you have to look at the totality of the circumstances and that's what we're doing." I said good chunk. Not all. I've also seen plenty of bikers and motorcyclists that hate events like critical mass and these motorcycle gangs because it gives them a bad name. Regardless, anyone that tries to justify blatantly breaking traffic rules, running lights, and pissing off everyone on the road just because they are in a mob? They deserve anything bad that happens to them that results from a ticked off driver snapping and doing something like this. Maybe not to that extreme, but seriously. **** those people. Cops should be arresting these people at the very least.
