I swear our troubles will be over if we just move Steve to the two. Cat can play the one better and Steve won't dominate the ball like he has been. That will get Mo more touches so that he can score consistently like he did with the Clippers.

I sometimes forget how an ex-rocket player is now a corner for the Arizona cardinals.

One season is enough for one of the prospects to break out. I don't think the chances are high but it happens from time to time.
Moti, Jones, Covington and even Greg Smith are hard workers.
Those are Anti-#BeWells, they are for real. It is pretty safe to say that one or more of them will be good role players at the very least.
I think one or more can at least produce what Patterson did in his third year.

They bring other things (rim protection, steals, points, good passing) of what you mentioned but it should add up to bring the same if +- numbers are good and they amount to winning.

3pt shot percentage and true shooting are hard to come by though

He would have just been a salary casualty to get Howard anyhow.

I'll take my chances that Jones or D-Mo will be better than a decent NBA PF which is what Pat is. If they don't we can find one next offseason very easily. Maybe even Pat himself.

if jones can raise he is midrange and 3point % morey looks like genius, jones cheaper contract and rebounds, finishes around the rim & blocks shots way better ! if not then it could still be missing you Patterson lol

Sorry, not missing PP at all. Really pretty much a role player on the bench of a decent team. Not deserving of rotation minutes. A PF who has no post game, doesn't rebound, cannot hit a 3 and plays below average defense. What is there to miss?

It could be a Shane Battier vs Rudy Gay situation all over again. Patterson would be a better player now but what if TJones or DMo has the potential to get significantly better in 2-3 year span?

I think there is nothing wrong to bet on the guys because I don't think Patterson can get that much better.
Landry basically stayed the same player after the Houston years.

If ESPN ranking can be trusted where Patterson and Landry are ranked around 140-150 which is above average among role players Morey should shoot for a project better than 100, around 80 or better.

Lowry, Kevin Martin now, Millsap those kind of players are a notch better.
And use those for even better players. See Harden.
possibly Aldrige, Love, Anthony Davis territory

There is a roster charge of 490K that would also have to clear to sign Howard to max as the Rockets would have had one less player. So Rockets would have had to get rid of Smith, too, but that isn't enough. They don't get such a long deal on Canaan because they can't go over minimum, but that still isn't enough to cover the roster charge and small difference in salaries. They still appear just short of true max so the Rockets would then have had to done something with Patterson, Lin, Asik, Harden, or Parsons or pray Dwight is willing to take a little less. Of that list, Morey probably trades Patterson as he isn't worth talking to Howard about taking less money.

1/3 of a season of Patterson is not worth 3 and 1/3 years DMo, 3 and 1/3 years Jones, 2 years of Canaan, and a year of Greg Smith (plus his bird rights).

PS...To what I've heard, the Rockets were trying to trade Jones, too, but didn't get a good offer.

And they should be trying to trade Jones. As yet another undersized PF without real skill, Morey is going to leave tire tracks all along his back.

Undersized? I think you should do a statistical study on the size of the average PF in the NBA for the last couple of years. He is above average in size unless your data set is the big PFs. The big PFs tend to be very good (psst...because they are bigger than the average and even above average sized PFs), but they are also rare. For his size, he may not have the skill set to be a starter, but I would give him a greater than 50% chance of sticking as at least a rotational PF.

You hating on Jones every chance you get is not going to get D-Mo that starting spot. Even Howard said that he was very impressed with Jones. So i'll take his word over yours.
