That it could happen; Melo could change his mind and go to another team but he would need reason to go there and that's where Kobe would come in.
J.R., do you have water squirting out of your ears, because you are literally a fountain of information around here! Not impressed with the OP's sources, but I would have never made a comment if he'd simply posted a link. Thanks!
Old news. It's a foregone conclusion that Melo is bolting to LA. The only ones that haven't figured it out yet are the Knicks. They're trying to pacify him and he is downplaying leaving because he doesn't want to go through the 2012 Dwight Howard drama with the Knicks forcing him to sign away his opt out our they trade him. He knows the Lakers don't have assets to trade for him and he really doesn't want to be traded somewhere else and go through a whole season of speculation about whether he is going to stay or leave. Melo knows there are guys like Morey who will trade for him and gamble on being able to keep him. Melo simply wants to walk to the Lakers.
I would LOVE to see Melo and Kobe try to play together it would be hilarious, between the two of them that's like 1700 bricks per season! Seeing them fight over the ball on the way to another Lakers season missing the playoffs would be priceless.

It wouldn't make sense to go after Melo, if you are the Lakers unless you simply want star power. The Lakers would be better served not going full-throttle through this season (specifically hoping Kobe comes back much later in the season, if at all). Why? Next year's draft is stacked, while next year's free agent pool is loaded with young free agents. Hell, if the Lakers are bad enough, they may have shot at ... Wiggins or Randle. The team as is can lose enough games to fall into that eligible category.
If the Knicks figure out Melo is leaving (which he is unless they win it all), then a package of Lin/Asik/TJones/picks would be as good as the Knicks could expect, without Melo making a commitment to stay where he is traded.
NYC isn't Melo's home town. He's from Baltimore. The Wizards are the closest NBA franchise to his hometown.
Well more importantly why will LBJ go to LA when he can stay in Miami or go to Cleveland? Hell, even Brooklyn is a possibility, they should clear their cap when LBJ hits FA. Just like Kobe, LBJ's chasing history, and unlike Kobe Lbj's proved he can win without superstar backup. All Kobe and Melo will do is take his shots away.
Oh, you beat me to it. Nancy Pelosi will wash my car in daisy dukes... if she is convinced to do so. Also, ewww.
