Isn't scalping more of selling tickets and not reselling of consoles? Anyway OP, you can probably end up selling them on Ebay for good money to parents desperate to get consoles for their kids because places are sold out because of people like you buying lots of them just to resell.

Still don't think there's enough information out there to state either of these things as objectively true.

As I've said in previous threads, keep in mind that video quality is generally much better on PS3 vs 360, DVD upscaling is much better, and the PS3's support of different video formats (to play off a media server or locally off the hard drive) has been consistently better.

Those quality aspects aren't sexy things you can market easily, nor are they objective enough to be able to compare until you have the two of them (PS4 & XBone) side-by-side playing the same video. And honestly, these quality aspects are really all I want out of an entertainment hub.

TL;DR: too early to say those things still.

Skype...cable integration...voice control...NFL deal...multitasking capabilites...the XBox, by design, has put more of a focus on things outside of gaming. The PS4 focus is more on gaming. If we are talking about an all in one entertainment center, the best the PS4 can do is try to match what XBox is doing. And as it currently stands, they are not matching them.

Pretty obvious Xbox One is the more media console of the two. That's one of the main reasons for why I am getting the Xbox One over the PS4.

    Well... no.

Again, "better" is in the eye of the beholder. Some people are going to care about those features, others (like me) may only care about the quality of the picture when playing a DVD or streaming on Netflix.

I don't care about Skype on my game system. I don't care about cable integration, as I will never buy cable. I don't care about voice control. I don't care about the NFL deal (I'd care if there were a deal with Serie A). And in my circle of gamer friends, I know no one else who cares about those things either.

"Multitasking capabilities" I might care about, but I would need more specifics about exactly what that means.

If all the PS4 does is continue the trend of having superior video quality over Microsoft's system, then for me (and plenty of others, but not everyone), that one fact would mean PS4 = better media center. And to be clear, I'm not saying I expect that quality difference to remain the same, this is all hypothetical.

This is all marketing hype to me until I see them side-by-side.

Well, to be fair, the PS3 was designed to be more of a media hub with it's blu ray player. The 360 wasnt initially designed with the thought of having superior video quality. As time passed, MS shifted its plans to be more of an all-in-one unit. In this department, neither will have an edge during the next gen. The only thing in question would be 4k...both systems will offer upscaling for people that eventually buy 4k televisions, so I guess that remains to be something we can keep an eye on. As far as 4k gaming, Sony is out of the picture while MS has said that it will have the option of 4k gaming. Not sure how that will pan out, if at all.

Neither one has any edge as far as video quality/streaming...this time around, they are both designed for good video quality, whereas in the last gen, PS3 was better designed and built for that category.

And as far as those things I listed, it really has nothing to do with what I like, what you like, etc... My whole point is that the XBox One is better designed to be a media hub bc it has more features. As it stands, the PS4 doesnt really have an edge in any of the areas not related to gaming.

Biggest thing MS is doing for the cloud is making it easy and affordable for developers to use it. They can do this because they have Azure, which is their own cloud development platform, and they have a ton of datacenters all over the world. They're giving XB1 developers a discount to use Azure and hosting their stuff.

Before this, you had to be EA or some big name company to be able to use the cloud since you either built your own or paid Amazon a ton of money to rent their infrastructure. Most developers can't afford it and a lot that can afford it choose not to. On XB1 it's now affordable, which is why a ton of XB1 launch titles are tapping the cloud and only a couple of PS4 games are doing it (paid for out of pocket).

Right now Sony doesn't have a platform or infrastructure. Good news is they're partnering with Rackspace and are probably gonna pay them to duplicate what MS is doing with Azure. So eventually cloud abilities should be equal.

I think a lot of the things Drexlerfan22 mentioned had little to do with the "design" of the systems, and more to do with how Sony/MS will support certain features. "Supporting multiple media formats," for example.

A lot of those little things aren't really known, and maybe even impossible to tell until both platforms are sitting in people's homes. I'll take no NFL app (or no "official" fancy NFL app) with more media support (and easier use) over an NFL app but limited/harder to use media support (just an example to illustrate my point, not saying that's how things will be).

It is kind of silly to compare these features at this point IMO, since we don't really know what each will offer (we've not even seen thorough UI demos of each system...which is fairly number unfortunately). Hard enough to compare hardware specs, and those aren't something that can really change ("media experience" relying more on software than hardware makes it difficult to judge until you have the machine in front of you).

I do expect the PS4 to be "behind" here, just given the way Sony has discussed it, but depending on how things work on the final boxes, I'm not sure it is a for sure thing. PS4 will obviously be a great media hub (the whole company is relying on that), but it remains to be seen what the product will offer.

Agreed, though I think even that is overblown a bit. The majority of Sony's own games (if not all of them) used dedicated servers (and were doing so since 2006ish). Even "small" games like Demon's Souls used "the power of the cloud."

A lot of games use P2P, though I wonder if part of that may simply be that the cost of dedicated servers isn't worth the benefit they'd bring. If Atlus and From Software could put up some servers, and leverage their power for some interesting features, I'm pretty sure the EAs, Activisions, Capcoms, SEs, etc., can as well, if the benefit is worth it.

What are the "ton of XBO games" that are tapping the power of the cloud, and which PS4 games are not taking advantage of it?

I'm kind of curious what policies MS has with Azure. I'm assuming you only get a discount if the servers are used exclusively for XBO, but certainly no reason why these guys couldn't use them for PS4, PS3, Wii U, PC, etc. If they're trying to compete with Amazon, Rackspace, etc., perhaps they would allow that though. Don't know if this initiative is to push the XBO or to push Azure. If it is the latter, would some publishers end up using other services since they could use the cloud for whatever platforms they want?

I think since XBone hasnt had a lot of day ones (compared to ps4) if you can get your hands on the xbone, you could probably flip quick to the Mothers of the world.

lol at those who said I wouldn't make anything.

Within 2 days of putting the ads on CraigsList, I managed to sell:

Target PS4 reservation card (cost $25) - got $125 for it yesterday.
Target Xbox One reservation card (cost $10) - got $120 for it today.

Easy $210 profit. But y'know, I did feel kinda bad selling it to them. Microsoft has said there will be consoles on the shelf at release for those who didn't pre order, and Sony said something similar. Oh well.

Now going to put up an ad for my Watch Dogs PS4 launch bundle from Amazon. I would then have 1 left for me to keep.

you should focus one Jordans. Now thats the item to scalp and re-sale..

as for this current next-gen consoles i would fathom the profit would be minimalist and probably not worth it.

I ordered a couple of PS4's. It seems like it's not worth the pain of selling it for minimal profit. Should I cancel 1 order?
