Howard is our best player....Best Center + inside Top 10 in most of the lists outside of Rocket forums

Judging from most Rockets articles, writers, media and discussions, it's gotta be Lin. They think they're clearly wasting time if they talk about anyone else.

Give Lin a year or so. When he gets more confidence in his game and is more secure in himself as an NBA player and a Houston Rocket then he will be the natural choice as clubhouse (and team) leader.

Until then...by committee and/or Marcus Camby.

When a top 10 player in the NBA has to PAY to hook up with women...you know there's something not right there. Yeah, let's make Harden captain.

I say we bring back Tracy McGrady and make him captain/mascot.

Going by the metrics above, Parsons should be the leader without any question. Prostitutes actually have to pay Parsons to sleep with him.

Why will Lin be the natural choice? Seems like Harden is far more important and he always talks about team responsibility.

Lol at Lin being the leader

Especially on a team with TWO superstars and a natural leader like parsons

McGrady was the captain. When he left, Hayes, Brooks, Battier, and Scola were each captains the year before they were gotten rid of

Um... His has only two more years on his contract with the Rockets, if he isn't traded before that.

McHale obviously wants to retain leadership :).

Like McHale said, who's "the Leader" will sort itself out. It'll take time. I don't think there's any particular player now who stands out as "the Leader," except possibly Parsons, in my opinion, and he's sort of young to take on the role, although he's matured damn fast. There's an obvious leader who won't play a hell of a lot, most likely, like Camby. You have Garcia, who talks a lot on the court to the other guys, ala Parsons, and while I don't know if his play will be at the level it was in the playoffs, I consider him an asset when it comes to leadership.

Honestly, how can we know right now, with the ridiculous turnover the team has had? Any one of Howard, Harden, and Lin may step up and become a team leader, like Battier clearly was. Who knows? It's one of the things to watch for in what is going to be a season to remember.

I feel that a leader need to:

Communicate well: I feel Parson and Lin communicate pretty well while Harden and Howard keeps it to themselves. History shows that Howard never says what he feels

form 1:1 relationships: Lin and Parson again excel in this as Parson was a big part in recruiting Howard to this team. Lin also have great 1:1 relationships as he always try to keep in touch with his teams such as sending a text message to T. Jones and other D-league players that are on the rockets roster to don't give up and keep trying. He's like the caring mom of the team a little bit.

a good listener: You have to be a good listener, you can't just be like it's my way or the highway. Not forcing your way and listen to the other side of it first. It seems like they are all average in this aspect.

Ability to identify their own strength and weaknesses and address them: Lin in my opinion, did this all last season. His handle, turnover, 3-pointers were all bad and slowly improved. he always talk about his mistakes and how he wants to improve them. Harden did talk about wanting to improve on his defense this off-season but throughout last season I didn't hear him saying anything about owning up to his mistakes.

need to acknowledge the need for change: Lin as stated above. Howard too in this regard since he denied more money and came to us.

Optimism and confidence for morale: Lin fail at this. He looked like a sad puppy last season. Harden and Parson are always confidence on and off the court it seems like.

Be passionate: they all are. I know that not many people know that Lin have a very harsh work ethic but he does. Harden does too and he goes at his workout very very hard.

Influential, ability to make people do things: Parson seems like the best at this. The combination with his pretty boy face and soothing voice and his whole persona, its hard to not wanting to do what he wants.

In these qualities, everyone have different deficit but they are filled by the others. But Lin have a lot of these qualities.

The leader of this team will be Harden, Howard and Parson.

Only one person mentioned Francisco Garcia. He's definitely one of the leaders.

wish Howard could step in and take the role by force but that's not gonna happen. Parsons i can see taking the leadership role. not so much Harden. but i would have to say Lin is the leader even though he probably won't acknowledge it since he's too humble. but a leader leads by example, sacrifices his game and body, and gives other plays all the credit.
