Jesus Walks, All falls down, and etc. were great. His first two records had a lot of depths to him. I don't like his newer stuff, but I give him so props for trying new stuff.
I don't think he is a genius or even a bona fide artist for that matter. his work isn't even that interesting. it won't stand the test of time.
You could probably argue how good of an artist anyone is forever but Kanye is definitely the most influential rap artist of the past decade. While others have ushered in eras of political, gangsta, or club rap. Kanye is the leader of the "high fashion"/girlfriend problems/sensitive/alternative rap. He's the father of Drake, Big Sean, Cudi, J Cole, ASAP Rocky etc. He also symbolically ended the gangsta rap era when he put out Graduation while easily out selling 50 cent.
Compared to most other artists who are as popular/mainstream as Kanye right now, it definitely will. His last three albums have been incredbily good and exciting and taken very big risks. 808s and Heartbreak is possibly the most influential album of the 2000s, it paved the way for these artists like Drake and others to come through. It was a big success despite being a very personal and depressing album, and it showed music like that can be a success, and we've seen many many more artists do that since. I don't think people realize Kanye's influence and impact on the genre. Not to mention My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy will probably go down as one of the greatest albums ever made.
wow kane is pure genius. If he comes off as smart, wow. If he comes off as stupid, he's only pretending, making ironic of person making fun of him. A true god.
Even though I'm not a fan, I won't deny that he has some talent and that some people enjoy his music. What I really don't like about him is his attitude! I don't think he's confident or even cocky, I just think he's totally full of himself! It was completely evident in the Taylor Swift fiasco that he suffers greatly from "Prima donna" syndrome, and that more than anything else is what I find repulsive. ....... ....... .......
Whether you like the results or not, he's one of the few popular people in rap who are trying to push ahead musically. Not like the bar was set that high in the genre anyways, but he really is trying to be an 'artist' which I appreciate.
Getting a little overboard with the praise of Kanye in here. I guess it's hard to to justify ones liking of the biggest douche-bag on the planet. Fishsticks.
http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory/kanye-west-jimmy-kimmel-make-nice-beef-20526008 So yeah...this seems to have been another publicity stunt...
What happened was an authentic reaction by Kanye. He just thought he could react that way because he knew Kimmel personally. Not much of a feud, sure, but I wouldn't call it a publicity stunt. I don't think either really knew what to make of it, since it was over Twitter and its hard to read people thought words alone.
Yeah No not really. Yeezy barely made nice on the show. He is just too tightly wound up these days. He showed himself to be definitely out of touch with his complaints about snobbish behavior from old money people regarding him and KimK. Talked about brands a whole lot and barely came off any better than how most people already think of him. (Also now talks like he definitely spends too much time at Paris and NY Fashion week and hanging with Karl Lagerfield and Anna Wintour). Kanye gonna be Kanye.
Seems like a publicity stunt to me. Jimmy gets a guy on his show that doesn't really do interviews much and Kanye gets to promote his new concert on ABC. Also people like Kanye and Miley don't care about what the public perceive them as, if anything they are happy the public perceives them as such.
Every so called Emcee in this paragraph blows. Every single one... Interesting that there is 7 that you name. We should put them in a line and then get 7 more brothers that think they can rhyme. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/pwFaFlVXg_c" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> The only genius to come from Kanye, came from SP...
Similarly, one could argue that Jay-Z is his father. You know, the guy who gave him his record deal and stage to be Kanye West. Kanye says on the Kimmel interview something to the effect of he just made beats until he got that Rocafella chain. I think it is also worth noting Jay-Z has the record for most #1 albums ever by a solo artist, outperforming the likes of Michael Jackson and Elvis. Kanye will not touch that. Additionally, Jay-Z's brand is worth exponentially more than Kanye's. Influential? Maybe, but he's not even on the same planet as J (mentally or influentially)
I don't like Kayne but College Dropout is still one of my faves. Everything after that I didn't really think was all that good other than a couple of songs here and there.
