If you didn't notice, they had a huge amount of holes.

Getting a good QB isn't easy. Christian Ponder, Terrelle Pryor, Chad Henne and Geno Smith have jobs.

I certainly noticed more than you.

getting a legit franchise level QB can mask a lot of wholes. QB is the most important position in a football team. That's the first hole you plug.

lol at geno smith, chad henne, pryor, ponder remark. absolutely relevant post.

Okay. I'll go from 09-12 since we really don't have a clear picture of the 2013 class. I'm only listing QB's that were selected after the Texans picked.

    2009
    Josh Freeman
    Pat White
    Stephen McGee
    Rhett Bomar
    Nate Davis
    Tom Branstater
    Mike Teel
    Keith Null
    Curtis Painter

    2010
    Tim Tebow
    Jimmy Clausen
    Colt McCoy
    Mike Kafka
    John Skelton
    Jonathan Crompton
    Rusty Smith
    Dan LeFevour
    Joe Webb
    Tony Pike
    Levi Brown
    Sean Canfield
    Zac Robinson

    2011
    Christian Ponder
    Andy Dalton
    Colin Kaepernick
    Ryan Mallett
    Ricky Stanzi
    TJ Yates
    Nathan Enderie
    Tyrod Taylor
    Greg McElroy

    2012
    Brock Osweiler
    Russell Wilson
    Nick Foles
    Kirk Cousins
    Ryan Lindley
    BJ Coleman
    Chandler Harnish

I've got two that I would take over Schaub right now, and as you can see when you take a QB late it's a long shot that they amount to anything. More than likely we would have wasted our time on another scrub than hit the jackpot with Kaepernick or Wilson.

    where is 07,08 draft?

not even draft, how about making a trade for a veteran qb or a great qb playing for a bad team that could be had for some draft picks.

the point is kubiak should have been smart and honest enough with himself to know that schaub is not the answer and started looking and planning for a qb solution. instead he wasnt smart enough to look ahead and kept rolling the dice with schaub.

It goes back to kubiak's philosophy of staying uber loyal to personnel he likes despite them being bad at their jobs.

    See Joe Marciano
    See Matt Schaub
    See Frank Bush

You are overstating your case. A QB rating consistently in the 90's is not bad.

You can look those drafts up yourself. I've got more important things to do on Saturday.

I was down to go after Manning a few seasons ago when he was available, but imo there has not been many opportunities to improve on Schaub. I'm down for cutting him this offseason though and drafting a QB high.

Got bored so I looked it up. We didn't miss out.

    2007
    Brady Quinn
    Kevin Kolb
    John Beck
    Drew Stanton
    Trent Edwards
    Isaiah Stanback
    Jeff Rowe
    Troy Smith
    Jordan Palmer
    Tyler Thigpen

    2008
    Brian Brohm
    Chad Henne
    Kevin O'Connell
    John David Booty
    Dennis Dixon
    Josh Johnson
    Erik Ainge
    Colt Brennan
    Andre Woodson
    Matt Flynn
    Alex Brink

Thinking back over the years I think besides Manning I would have also gone after Culter when he was available. Other than that nothing else. Bottom line is it's not as easy to find a better QB than Schaub then many of you make it sound.

Keep those expectations low and you will never be dissappointed.

    Wrong.

90's QB rating is not "low."

Umm, you were amongst those that wanted the Texans to stick with Schaub just a year ago.

He's seen the light! As most people who follow the Texans have seen. Schaub leads us nowhere. Kubiak and Schaub are the reason I wasn't all that pumped about this season. I've seen this movie and I know how it ends. No reason to expect a championship with these guys in charge.

QB ratings as a way of trying to solve a realistic argument = low.

One of the most important thing a QB can do is to lead, Matt Schaub is like a wet noodle in that regard.

You don't see him taking command on the field, reading a defense checking to a better play.

The guy is the definition of a decent QB - not great, not bad, just right down the middle.

I still do Major, they have no choice, whom do they have? They have completely submarined themselves by holding on to Captain Mediocre.

I am not calling for them to switch, they have nothing left, I am just saddened and a little pissed that they stuck with him without bringing a true challenger into the mix.....

Well, there was this one Hall of Famer dude, but apparently he wouldn't be very good outside of Indy...

Yep, a 37 year old guy coming off of neck surgery - and going to take a large part of the cap, I still would not have taken that risk, that one I understood.

Payton though is super special - what a player.

There's the underlying problem. You can't improve without taking risks. If it was easy to find a star QB without much effort, everyone would have one.

As much as I would love a hall of fame QB, I would just like an upgrade at that position - he plays QB like he has battered wife syndrome.

But proven upgrades aren't available on a regular basis. You either have to take a chance on unproven young player, or a vet that has some kind of unique extenuating circumstances. Peyton is one example. Cutler a few years ago, and Alex Smith last year are others - but they are few and far between, so if you really want an upgrade, you have to be willing to roll the dice.

Right, bc we see trades involving good quarterbacks all the time in the nfl.

Not sure what you are arguing here, I agree 100% - I would have preferred they take a good one with a draft pick and let him push Matt, as it is, we are screwed if our mediocre QB goes down.
