Nor do you need Adrian Peterson. Nor do you need JJ Watt. Nor do you need Darelle Revis. There's absolutely nothing in the NFL that's "needed" to win. So I guess the Texans should just get whoever they want because, let's face it, you don't need any particular type of player to win. But you know what? Every time I see Matt Schaub rolling out from a bootleg, no one within 10 feet of him, throws the ball out of bounds, I think, "hey, a running QB would've forced the defense to commit to him and allow receivers to break free and create yardage."
You know what? Everytime I see a player do x bad, I think "hey, it would be nice to have a player who could do x."
But your QB should excel at something, right? No, you don't need a running QB, but you need a QB who brings something to the table. What does Schaub bring to the table?
So this is a BAD thing? Are Texans fans suppose to look at a QB that threw 3 pick-6s in the past 5 games and say, "Well, I really shouldn't expect any better than this from an ELITE QB."
Think back to when Kubiak won a Super Bowl... and think about what the QB of that SB team could do. Keep in mind this QB ran the exact same offense Schaub is currently running.
I have almost never seen Schaub throw the ball away on a designed bootleg. You must be thinking of something else. He throws the ball away routinely on broken plays.
Don't get me wrong I would take Kaepernick or RGIII in a second, but I'd also take a Luck or Manning. You just need a good QB.
Luck runs well. Manning doesn't but he, like Brady, have great suttle movements within the pocket that allow them to get off throws. Both are strong in the pocket and neither gets "happy feet" very often.
