Steve young, couldn't win the big one until age 32 with the front office and ties to the mob finally decided to upgrade every defensive position, including the addition of the "Neon" sweepstakes. Before that, heart crushing ints against a more expen$ive Defense. Doug williams- most under appreciated qb other than mark rypien, who was also a late bloomer. but of course, you know about elite quarterback with all your books and chapters.
you schaub fanboys are hilarious. the guy won't be qbing this team past next season regardless. why not take freeman in the fold if he can be got for cheap. cannonball doesn't even want to draft someone next year. ridiculous.
I'm sure I'm labeled a Schaub fanboy here, but I've BEEN calling for them to find their replacement. Two years ago I wanted the Texans to draft Cousins or Wilson (you can find me calling for it in the draft thread) and last year I wanted them to take a chance on a guy as the draft unfolded. I am all for them going out there to find a replacement for Schaub. Not because he is bad though or because you can't win with him, but because I think you can do better if you really put your mind to actually doing it. All that said? I don't think Freeman is likely to be better.

Quality QBs are the rarest and most expensive commodities in the league. Schaub isn't elite by any stretch, but he is quality. Unless we have a top 2-5 defense, you're not going to win big with him. I'm in the "draft a QB in 2014 and let him ride pine for a year" camp, and wouldn't be surprised if Manziel was that guy.
Bucs fan here. Freeman has flashes of a great QB and can be a good one at the NFL level. The coaching staff is horrible and the lack of a consistent third receiver or TE give Josh no coverage in the middle. It's no coincidence Josh had his best years when Kellen Winslow and Dallas Clark were contributing. Dude is still younger than Kaepernick.
Unlike Kap, Freeman has had 4 full seasons in the NFL and looked like a stink-bomb their first 3 games this year. 2010 was a complete fluke. Pass.
Im a no to freeman as a starter over schaub at this point. With kubiak molding him, he might be saveable but that wont work with our win now talent/mentality. Secondly to each and every one of you that says "Just get another QB in the draft" Name 1 qb that we will be able to take that is better than schaub at the current time frame. Guess what you cant, because none exist. Andre Luck's, Tom Brady's, Peyton Mannings, Steve Young's, Joe Montana's, John Elways dont just grown on Trees and you can't just say "hey we need a new qb, lets go grab one with our 5th round pick." This next year's class does not have an answer either. I love ATM and Manziel, he's not a pro qb tho.
I've always liked Freeman's natural talents and have always felt like the Bucs had no idea what they were doing with him. To say now, that I would want him, I'm just no sure about that commitment. He's up for a new contract, and you would only hope he would make some sort of a deal so he doesn't break the bank if he doesn't work out. You would need to implement him in our offense and make adjustments to utilize his strengths and diminish his weaknesses. You would need to allow for an adjustment period for both him to learn and for the coaches to learn how to utilize him the best. This would take months on both ends. You would also have to equate for mental baggage that has been developed in Tampa Bay. You'll have to break away all that scar tissue so he can trust himself more, and reduce all his mental errors. That in it's self will take time, a lot of time. I'd say if you do a trade for him this year, it would only come to the agreement he would sign a long term deal (3-4 years) for not a ton of guaranteed money. However many picks and what rounds matters a lot here. You would also need to trade away one of our backups, and I would only assume that would have to be Yates since he's widely considered one of the best backups in the NFL. He would have to sit behind Schaub for a year and learn his ass off. Build up his confidence and learn how this offense would operate with him at the helm. Maybe if Schaub drops the ball even further as the season progresses you give him a chance at the end of the year, otherwise, I would sit him and have him open up camp as the competing starter for next season. You hope he beats out Schaub and if he does you cut ties with Matt and move on. If he doesn't you give him another year to push for the job and if he never overtakes Schaub, you cut ties all together. You can't alot too much time for the guy. Sometimes a renovation just isn't worth the time and money, you simply won't get anything out of it. I'm just not sold on all the investment for a guy whose been in the league for 4 years now.
Would not trade for him. But would sign him in the offseason if he's willing to be the backup and learn the system until Schaub gets cut in 2 years(his contract is designed that way). Of course it won't happen, but I think some of the Freeman's skillset would be very enticing for this offense. But between the ears is the issue here.
