This is about what to expect. He is going to make $66.9 million over 5 years. That's basically about $11.5 million starting salary with 7.5% raises if he were a free agent today. It makes Cousins tradeable and avoids the market being skewed for him if he underperforms on a rookie deal. I think if he shows attitude problems again this season that they move him quickly.
Having Dwight howard now, and Harden, its little things like this how you can sense the headache trusting guys like Cousins. Feeling better NOT having to take the salary gamble on him putting the franchise in his hands. Would trust Josh Smith, Aldridge, Chris Bosh more at max salary. I'd probably trust extending PAU Gasol not even Marc at close to that number over Cousins. Not saying he's a total loser, he does give some effort, but maybe can't win with him as your #1 guy. (Cue "Zach Randolph" reference for positive example) But if he struggles to generate team success, might be tough to move him in another team whod have the luxury of having him as a complementary piece. (Who is gonna make him their franchise guy, or want to pay that much for a #2 besides a team like Knicks. Or maybe a flawed for flawed swap of David Lee for Cousins to roll the dice)
Great post man. I like your logic a lot I agree 100%. Should have let him play his contract year for extra motivation to see what he can do when he's got his head in the game
Didn't where else to put this. Very interesting. Sorry if posted. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/htiURZVuoks" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
The extension was totally worth 60 mil or whatever, for this right here: <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>When asked how many offenses he's been a part of as a King, DeMarcus Cousins said: "Actually this is my first one."</p>— Marc J. Last few games, he has been active defensively, took most of his shots in the paint, dove for loose balls and exhibited a positive attitude and body language. Still early, but it looks promising.
