imagine having this option at PF right now as a back up or starter ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Patterson was just starting to drain 3s basically at the highest percentage than anyone on the squad. A stretch four but with a large frame could put a body on bigger PFs when that time came. Could imagine what it would be like him playing next to howard and not having to depend on his defense. These type of player don’t come around often.

The Rockets did not want to overpay for mediocrity.

Let's move on. He's gone and we have a new team and a new year. This horse has been beaten to death.

Maybe a good time to lock this thread?

Patterson was a casualty of the star chasing, but he would fit perfectly on this squad right about now.

Can we move on from this. Patterson is no longer here. We have decent options at the 4.....time to move on.

He's more like the type of player who comes along yearly. Decent shot, average defender, can sometimes go a week at a time without sniffing a rebound.

We had plenty of time to see what 2Pat could do, and he didn't impress us enough to keep him around. Now instead, we get to have fun watching him try to defend Dwight Howard in our twin tower lineup. :)

To be fair, if players like Patterson is so easy to find, why are we still shaking our heads trying to decide whether DMo or TJones is going to be our future PF? We've got four 1st round picks of PFs besides Patterson and none has shown that they could definitely man our 4 spot long term.

It is true that Patterson would fit very well with the star core we have now. But then, we'd have to pay him too. So that's that.

as a starter or a backup it would have been good to have him on this roster alot of fans are just in denial, you wouldnt take DMO for patterson at this point ?

That's exactly my point: We have all these other PFs, and 2Pat is only marginally better than any of them. Sure, he's an upgrade, but not by much. And certainly not enough of an upgrade to justify having to pay him as if he were a legit starting NBA PF.

I think where we disagree is how good Patterson is. I believe he is a legit starting NBA PF -- not a great one, but legit nonetheless. And he deserves to be paid as such.

Asik is a better player than Patterson. But with Howard, Patterson would fit better and would be paid less. Of course, when we traded Patterson and later got Asik, we didn't know we would get Howard. So I am not crying about it.

What does Patrick Patterson deserve to be paid if he indeed has another improving season in Sac Town?

Somebody brought up DMO for PPat...that's a tempting trade now since we've got Dwight.

He is not marginally better than what we have, he is a legit NBA power forward, whereas now we do not have any.

We have prospects right now who have only been liabilities on the court thus far. They had some highlight plays, but as far as consistent contributors, it hasn't happened yet. Could they get there? Sure. But this is a win now team, not a wait and see team.

Patterson hit 39% from 3 last year, and 57% true shooting. He is a solid pick and roll defender and smart player who is relatively cheap.

Patterson makes 3 million dollars next year, which is not some big cost. As far as place holders go, until Love or Aldridge arrive in 2015, he would be an excellent placeholder.
