That would be a difference between between a basketball players job and a normal job. Why is it relevant? A sense of humor? Who made a joke? McHale? If your job was working on the factory line and you went to your employer and said you would prefer to work off the factory line instead; would you be doing something wrong?
That wasnt a sarcastic comment by McHale...it was a straight up answer. When you're dealing with a baby, sometimes, you have to lay it out there a little harder. We dont know what's been going on, but if the team has been sensing that Omer has continued to pout about this, then Im sure that's where McHale's hand has been forced to be a little bit more aggressive with his comments. When we first signed Howard and Omer reacted poorly, McHale's comments were much more relaxed. Clearly, something has happened or continued to happen where McHale is not satisfied.
you don't see coach mchale losing patience very often but that one was spot on. i guess he's tired of that question.
Basically this and I don't blame him to be honest. Obvious disrespect to him after he put together a very solid season.
ESPN made it up when Dwight decided to join the Rockets. First it was, Dwight has chosen the Rockets. Then it was, Dwight has changed his mind to stay with LA cause of more money. Then it was, Dwight is going to the Rockets, but Asik is not happy with the Rockets choosing Dwight because he wants to be the starting C.
Disrespect? If it weren't for Morey Asik would be a backup in Chicago still and not making $25 mil. Once Asik or his reps opened thier mouths about not being happy that the team landed a TOP 10 NBA player he hurt his chances at getting traded ASAP.
And it just doesn't make sense for Asik to have any complaints about bringing Dwight. Would Asik really want to help lead his team to the playoffs only to get knocked out of the 2nd round just because he wants to be the starting C?? Or does he want to be the backup C and or starting PF who helps lead his team the Finals because we needed a star player like Dwight to get us over that hump? I'm sure he's looking for rings more than his stats...
more like tough luck . i feel bad for Asik, he played really well last season. Definitely a essential part of Rockets being in the playoffs. And he is rewarded with this.
How is it disrespectful to him when you bring in the the best C in the league? But lets be honest, his post moves still need A LOT of work. He has bad hands and is still developing his game. He doesn't have to worry about getting another contract, teams will still want him and will pay him (look at Gortat). So, he just needs to come to camp and see how everything fits together. His mins could only go down by 10, who knows? Have to wait and see how the rotations workout.
I would say that Morey made Asik a lot more money than he would have normally received. It was Morey's analysis that projected Asik to be as good as he turned out to be...very few other teams, if any, would have given Asik the contract we gave him.
Much ado about very little. I've never seen a direct quote from Asik asking to be traded and/or refusing to work with D12. There will be plenty of opportunities for controversy this season, as always, so let the small stuff go.
I have always heard about how Asik was a good teammate who didn't mind doing whatever he had to do to help the team. We'll see if that was true soon enough. If he accepts his new role and thrives the Rockets will be a championship contender and he'll be setting himself up for a HUGE payday when his contract runs out.
I don't see how anyone can fault Omer, though. If one was a manager at a store, how would the person feel if some guy came in and took over the job, relegating you to assistant manager? Even more so, it's not as though Asik underperformed or was inefficient last season. He had a breakout year - it's even more of a letdown having Howard take your spot.
It's not like he is going to be taking a pay cut though. I don't blame Asik for wanting to start, and wanting to play as much as possible, but he would have been much better off just telling the Rockets privately that he wanted to be traded if that is truely what he wants. Publicly leaking it just makes it harder for the Rockets to grant his wish and find an acceptable trade, so he didn't do himself any favors there. So far I have only heard rumors, not direct quotes from Asik asking for a trade, so we shall see how it all plays out.
