snide and out of line.... "Omer is a great team player and I'm confident he'll support whatever makes us better as a team and allow us to contend for a championship." ...would that have been too difficult? smh....
Thanks Commie for the lesson in labor rights... Their's is not an average workplace, as evidenced by the camera and reporter who care. Do you get interviewed on the benefits of ceramic vs coated cast iron bath tubs? Get a sense of humor and lighten up - no one has to walk on egg shells for a millionaire playing a kids game.
Ii like mchale's answer. Its not Asik's job to think, its his job to rebound block shots and improve on last yr. His job is not to express his feelings. He should be grateful the rockets gambled on him when all everybody saw was a glorified benchwarmer in chi town. Bring your butt back and see how u can complement Howard's game.
The thing which needs to be emphasised to Omer is that quality big men is the key factor in beating the Heat. Indiana were one coaching decision away from knocking out Miami (Roy Hibbert being benched on a key possession = Miami offensive rebound and basket) San Antonio were one coaching decision away from knocking out Miami (Tim Duncan being benched on a key possession = Miami offensive rebound and basket) When these two substitutions were made - an inferior player came on trying to lock down the paint. Miami capitalised on this and used it to their advantage. IF we were to make it to the Finals. You tell Omer - "what the hell do you think Miami are going to do when Dwight leaves the game? We substitute the best defensive big man in the league for a top 4 defensive big man in the league." Our team as constructed has the best chance outside of Indiana to eliminate Miami in a series. I'd be throwing all my chips onto the table with this strategy and let him know even if he's the reserve big - he has as much a say in making this team successful than others.
No doubt, this is the best answer to Omer. Pop is still lugubrious: Source: http://nba.si.com/2013/09/24/gregg-popovich-spurs-heat-lebron-james-tim-duncan-tony-parker-manu-ginobili/
asik is eventually getting traded anyways, and he surely knows it. the only thing delaying the inevitable is morey waiting on the right deal from his perspective. so you can't really fault asik for being less than pleased about being stuck in this purgatory position. he's basically losing time on our roster now. as far as mchale's comment, seeing how the GM keeps trading away all his pet players, he likely has less say on if/when omer gets traded than omer himself.
The irony is McHale wasn't happy about Morey not resigning Dragic due to an extra year player option. He also forgot about letting the GM be the GM when he let Fred Hoiberg sweat-talk him into drafting Royce White.
Kevin McHale started the majority of games in 5 of the 13 seasons he played in the NBA. He's a champion, was named one of the 50 greatest players of all time, he's a Hall of Famer and has made the NBA his life. If anyone can tell Omer that it's going to be okay to come off the bench, it's coach McHale.
This is what I love about McHale... he's one of the best in the business at cutting through the crap and giving it to us straight
A year from now we'll be reading articles of the return of the Big Men featuring Howard and Asik and how they were the key piecees to finally topple the Heat.
Asik, regardless of how hard he works, acted like a little b**** after we signed Howard. Glad McHale is putting him in his place. And the coach is spot on...shut up and play.
