Asik's getting paid millions of dollars. He signed a contract. He can choose to do his job well or not. I don't think what McHale said is any big deal at all. Anyone who signed a multimillion dollar contract, do your job!
McHale is a very funny guy, which can get lost in his deadpan delivery. What he's saying is right, of course -- Asik is not the GM -- but it's also a funny remark. Here is a well-known sports reporter (Jack McCallum, formerly of Sports Illustrated and author of the "Dream Team" book, among others) talking about McHale's sense of humor: http://bit.ly/195BQF5 McCallum then goes on to talk about McHale playing a joke on actor Kevin Costner. If you give McHale a chance to make a joke, chances are he's going to take it. And I think that is the case here with the "Asik GM" issue.
I find McHale's response incorrect (and douchey). It's not wrong for Omer to take stock of his position with his employer and express unhappiness to the employer. Which is what he did. Seems like Omer behaved very professionally to me.
Correction: tens of millions. Whatever the standard of living is in turkey, and regardless of conversion rates, Asik is absolutely set for life; probably dozens of lives in turkey. Very disappointed with Asik's attitude: his contract is fully guaranteed, even if he never plays another minute for the rockets. As far as asik's attitude being a fabrication of the rumor mill, this 'rumor' has been circulating for 3+ months now, and asik has made no effort to correct it if erroneous.
He looks at the bench and sees this... when he's used to seeing this... He's trying to toughen up these youngins for the NBA, and that's exactly what they need. Probably why irks him every time a question is asked about players' emotions. These are grown men, and no one knows what kind of relationship him and Omer have with each other to say his response was wrong. Omer talks ish out loud to Mchale when he gets benched, and now Asik is supposed to have his feelings hurt from Mchale's reply? Please.
You don't need to know the relationship between McHale and Asik to know his criticism is incorrect. Omer is correct to express his dissatisfaction to his employer with his current position (no different then anyone else). If you were unhappy with your position with your employer wouldn't you let them know? Omer, unfortunately for him, doesn't really have the option to quit.
McHale is a frontrunner. Sucks everyone's dick who leads him and shuns the non popular idea. Truth it, this is NOT how a coach should handle his personnel. This is a sensitive subject to one of our best players. Asik on most teams is a starter, but with Dwight here, he obviously is not. I don't think it's far fetched to play them both at the same time for periods, but this is not the way to do it. He's basically saying shut up and play and listen to me. Try that with Dwight, Kevin.
McHale is getting paid millions of dollars. He signed a contract. He can choose to do his job well or not. I think what McHale said he proved he's obviously not doing his job that well given he can handle himself in the media appropriately within a sensitive subject. Anyone who signed a multimillion dollar contract, do your job!
Guys It was just a joke! LOL this is the problem when you convert a verbal interview into an article... you loose the context or the haha's and the hoho's...
