So I guess Cruz was against the budget before he was for the budget after all.

Anyway, back to the real world and the budget; it looks like Boehner is coming to his senses.

House Republicans Unlikely To Touch Obamacare In Next Government Funding Offer

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) hold most of the power in the remaining few days of a government shutdown showdown before the government runs out of money to operate at the end of September. Republican aides in both chambers feel that Boehner's hand has been strengthened by Cruz's inability to move the debate in the Senate. But they caution that Reid could still gum up any House plans by keeping Senate Democrats united.

That's why four separate senior aides from both chambers say they would be very surprised if Boehner turned around and tried to craft another short-term continuing resolution that sought major changes to the president's health care law.

    Ted Cruz voted for Obamacare

The Senate on Wednesday moved toward approving legislation to keep the government open without gutting the health care law after Senator Ted Cruz’s 21-hour-and-19-minute verbal assault on it ended with a 100-to-0 vote

So he voted for cloture! Hahahahahaha. Ted Cruz made a joke of himself.

lol at your grasping for straws. You need to look at the full context

Cruz scored a stunning victory in shining the light on the national disaster that is upon us with Obamacare.

The only thing I grasped was Ted Cruz' own words, and his own actions. Maybe you'll wrap your head around that as well one day.

Yeah, leadership material right there. LOL.

Before you can lead America, you need to have your own right-wing party rolling their eyes at you and the other party staring in disbelief as if you are a crazy street person.

He actually voted to move forwar with the debate about the bill. So you have to ask wtf was the 21 hour speech for. At least vote NO after all that waste of time. Glad to see some of the backlash of his party members and it seems a discussion on revising the ACA might happen. I am totally open for that option.

The victory he scored was with the grass roots and pitch fork grabbers. That is nice to have, but he also alienated even more support from his own party, which is worse.

Was it worth it? I guess only time will tell.

His big problem is Rand Paul, as far as 2016 goes. Cruz is trying to appeal to the Tea Party, but meanwhile, Rand Paul already has that base but also has managed to appear moderate enough to be reasonably liked by the establishment.

I assume Cruz' strategy will be to paint Paul as a sellout when the time comes, but given his father's history, I don't see that working.

Cruz is a very intelligent man and is certainly capable. However, he just isn't very likable. The ******* factor is going to be a serious problem for him when he attempts to appeal to moderates and women.

I'd take 100 word summary of what is wrong with the ACA and what the republican alternatives are.

What does "suspending the debt limit" means? The debt limit isn't technically raised by Congress, but Congress is removing the limitation that the US can't borrow above the debt limit? So in effect, there is no more debt limit until the suspension time frame is over (1 yr in this case)?

What is this year delay of Obamacare? Obamacare is taking effect soon, so what is this delay?

It sounds like the Republican is trying to blame the amount of debt that need to be increased next Sept (very large amount since it was simply suspended) to be caused by Obamacare? Is that what they are trying to do here?

Yes, pretty much. I don't know if Treasury can legally borrow more than it needs, but if I were the admin, I'd borrow way more than necessary ahead of time if that were an option.

In the past, the discussion has been delaying the individual mandate from Jan 1, 2014 to Jan 1, 2015. The idea is to make it a campaign issue for the mid-terms. The problem with this is that the whole system is built around a mandate - without it, the rest of the policy doesn't make any sense, so there's no way to practically make it work.

Not really - I think they did this once before too with the suspending the debt ceiling thing. It's a way to not have to put a number to it - so instead of having to have this fight the next time we hit the target, it sets the specific date for the next fight. It also lets people avoid having to say they voted to raise the debt ceiling.
