People say that, but who in recent years were the Texans in position to draft that any sane, rational fan would want and is better than Schaub? Russell Wilson is really the only one. We could've drafted Colin Kaepernick but then we wouldn't have JJ Watt and I don't think most of us would like that tradeoff. Would you have drafted Andy Dalton over Watt? Didn't think so. Luck and Griffin were drafted before our #1 pick last year. No QB's in 2010 worth a damn outside of Bradford who went #1. No QB's in 2009 worth taking after the Texans first rounder. Stafford went #1. Freeman went 2 picks after Cushing, but Freeman freakin' sucks. Nobody in 2008 after our pick. Ryan and Flacco taken before us. No decent QBs at all in 2007. Kevin Kolb being best of that group. And anybody really think Geno Smith from this past draft would've been the answer? Would you want him over Hopkins? So that's one. ONE quarterback we were actually in position to draft during the Schaub era that could be considered a better option. If you want a better quarterback, fine. But don't act like we can just draft a QB and that's going to solve the problem. Great QBs are hard to find and in recent years, almost all of them have gone before we've even had a chance to pick.
Houston had the 18th pick that Baltimore picked Flacco with. Houston traded down to 26 to select Duane Brown. (The two other picks acquired in that trade - Steve Slaton and Dominique Barber.) Not that I think he is a franchise QB(but you do see many wanting to trade for him) - Kirk Cousins(4th round, 102 overall), 3 picks earlier the Texans took Ben Jones. Russell Wilson taken one pick before Houston. (Brandon Brooks) Other than that, I think I agree, ha.
Tavaris, somehow, actually managed to win a competition. The best Johnny can hope for is to win through attrition.
Matt Schaub will be a Texan at least through the 2014 season. I think the Texans should look for a QB in the draft this year...and the rookie will spend a year on the sidelines in 2014 before possibly replacing Schaub in 2015.
This just isn't true. Or at least it hasn't been totally the case THIS season. In these first three games, Schaub has been noticably better at avoiding the rush and moving in the pocket. That's not to say that his play has been acceptable, the guy just has to make better decisions. If he can do that, and if the O-Line can get it together, I think this team will find a way to end up playing thier best football at the end of the season and into the playoffs. When things really begin to count. I'm not going to blow a gasket over inconsistentcy in September. But no doubt they need to get it together.
No to Freeman. I'd rather the Texans just promote Keenum or Yates to starting QB. If that doesn't work out, then look elsewhere. Also, barring serious injury, JFF will play on Sundays in a regular season game. Some team's going to give him a shot. He'd better hope the team he goes to has a good offensive line.
Pass to the middle for 5 yards when you need 7. It's Kubiak and Schlubs favorite play and Defenses know this now, yet they continue. Mutual twits.
WTF is going on here? You want a guy who completes 45% of his passes to replace a guy who completes 65% of his passes for us? This threads gone full r****d
both those guys are unknowns. i dont understand how so many people wrote off yates so quickly because he didnt match matts production playing in about 6 whole games including playoffs in his rookie season. we havent seen much to further that opinion.. if youre goping to writ ehim off you might as well write case off too.. im willing to bet neither of these guys are the answer, problem is schaub isnt the answer either. fools gold schaub were gonna win a bunch of games but never beat teams we need to in the playoffs..
The Texans probably aren't lucky enough for Keenum to be the answer, but they need to find out, one way or the other, before they draft another QB.
I think many people aren't really understanding the issue with Schaub. Schaub's not a problem so much as his contract and Texans treatment of the QB positionis. Basically you can draft a QB and have $10~12mil extra in spending money instead of Schaub. If Schaub was only making $5mil/yr, I'd be fine. If the Texans consistently drafted some QBs with upside in the draft, perhaps some mobile ones that may run the playaction better, that would also be fine. Basically, I just wished the Texans didn't put all their eggs into the Schaub basket by never having comptetition for the job, and giving him so much money they can never cut him(until 3 years later). Schaub as a QB I think is average and quite capable. He's just not what the Texans treat him like.
