i boxed for a long time, and i will say that it definitely transfers well into the game of basketball. fast hands, increased, hand eye coordination, and foot work are all things that boxing gives you. stamina especially.

Yeah, that's big Lou Savarese. He was quite a punching bag for years.

I have said that on the first page. I said:

"The reason for this is because raw power, endurance, strength, etc. isn't helpful on it's own unless you can channel it to basketball. The skill-training is a bridge that connects your new weight-room strength, power, and stamina into functional basketball strength, power, and stamina."

I'm not sure you read all of my posts, because this has been my stance for the whole thread. I'm not saying that in a sarcastic way to be rude.. I'm just not sure that you read through the posts where I said that.

RV6 has been saying he doesn't like cross-training in other sports to help you in your sport. I have been saying you need both general fitness, including cross-training (if you wish), AND sport-specific training.

And when I say sport-specific training... I don't just mean playing basketball. Playing basketball is a year-round thing. I mean doing things like weighted jumps, plyometrics on a slide board, training with ankle bands, cone drills, ladder drills, passing with weighted balls, dribbling drills, etc.... things that specifically help a basketball player increase his basketball-specific ability.

Is anyone actually claiming that the guys are failing to train in basketball? "The Rockets should practice basketball skills." Yeah, I think we'll all agree there.

Damn yall. Maybe they just thought it would be fun to go to a boxing gym instead of running wind sprints for the 100,000th time in their life.

I dont get how people say **** like "it doesnt transfer over" Have you tried it? I have. I played badminton for one year, and noticed considerably increased explosiveness in my first step. Started mma training and boxing for 6 months and noticed my footwork has increased (this lead to doing more basketball move like an increased speed in my reverse pivot at full speed drives) and VERY quick hands that allow me to get into the passing lanes and deflect/steal the rock. Started playing tennis for 2 years and it felt like I couldn't miss a jump shot sometimes when I get going.

Every single sport will indirectly improve one facet of your game.

I'm surprised noone mentioned Hakeem who played soccer if I recall correctly. You all agree his soccer skills translated really well into basketball, so...??

I'm not saying basketball players should play soccer. However a lot of people in this thread don't recommend cross training while having prime example of that in Hakeem.

I know he probably didn't touch soccer ball once he started playing in NBA, but to say one sport can't contribute anything to another is wrong. Tennis for example can teach you how to use your legs and hips in order to generate power, and you can use that with baseball. Same with footwork and soccer for basketball players.

As long as they don't surf - Luc Longley
Lin should box as well. It should help his head snap back look more real when fouled

Well, we need some enforcers on this team so I can only hope that this will help them be more confident on the court. I have high expectations for this team next year, I don't want to see this team get pushed around by refs, by opposing players or fans/media. I want our team to take a giant **** on everyone, and you need to have enforcers to make that happen.
