I have no problem with these guys mixing up their off season conditioning when A lot of players don't try to stay in shape at all. Also, Beverly is clearly training for the one punch KO he is going to deliver to Westbrook when Urkel 2.0 tries to cheap shot him in retaliation for the knee injury last season.

You can hear the boxing coach slur which is the reason I stopped boxing.

It will mess up their shooting. Mike James is a prime example.

Sounds more like you read about these things online and interpret the information correctly, or infer things about the information you have read that is way off base.

I agree with RV6's general points, however, I do think some of the skills in boxing can transfer over to the basketball court.

That should read "incorrectly" instead of "correctly".

Surprised how many posters don't believe in cross training. So would you say that lifting weights is a waste of time and that time should be spent on dribbling and shooting drills? Boxers shouldn't jog, they should just dance around the ring? Tiger Woods should quit lifting and jogging and spend more time at the driving range? http://www.tigerwoods.com/fitness/workoutRegimen Someone better get on the phone to LeBron and tell him to stop doing yoga! http://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-2470/LeBron-James-Yoga-Is-Secret-to-Endurance.html

By the way, I've done a lot of lifting and I can go out the door and run ten miles right now, but I find bikram yoga (hot yoga) to be the best overall fitness activity I've tried!

Now I would like to know how many posters in this thread are in real shape.

But repetition using both sides of their bodies and improved stamina will.

And thank God the other sport Hakeem played translated over. Training in other sports isn't just about getting in shape, it's awakening and training muscles in different parts of the body that aren't normally used merely playing basketball.

I am a huge fan of cross-training. Especially for basketball players. IMO, any skill learned through other sports transfer well to baketball. For instance, soccer helps with footwork and endurance. Boxing is good for the same but also helps with quick hands. I'm thinking more on the defensive side.

Can't wait till the first on court fight; our guys won't be "slapping" like most basketball players do. Beverly can punch Westbrook's lights out. ;)

Don't think cross training helps? Then why do so many great athletes do it?

RV6 and bmd are not actually disagreeing with any of the facts, just with each other, lol.
Nothing wrong with weight-lifting (to a degree), swimming, or jogging, to develop your strength and endurance. At the same time, those won't develop the 3 ball that needs improving (as an example), so I would need to train specifically for the skillset that I need to work on. I don't get the fuss. I would say that a good 2 hours per day will be spent on weight training/running/ etc. outside of basketball-specific drills per every day of exercise in the off-season. Nothing controversial at all..

Suddenly we understand why you have somewhat extreme views, but are very confident about them.

There was never any indication that this was going to somehow replace their basketball regimen. I doubt Steve Nash is worse at basketball from playing soccer.

It is an opportunity for the player to stay in shape and somewhat rest the body from doing the exact same moves over and over. If you do 100 jumps it might not do that much damage to your body; but do 10,000, you too would be looking for alternative routes to keep yourself fit and stimulate your muscles in different ways.

Usually the better choices for a basketball player are biking and swimming due to the reduction in impact.
