This is false. The Pro runs all applications just like Win7 today. Surface 2 (RT) only runs app store apps, just like an iPad. However, I never hear people saying that's a no-go issue for iPad or Nexus. The RT is a tablet that happens to have a really useful keyboard and MS Office built-in. I have an RT and I love it. I use it for web, email, calendar and editing MS Office documents. That accounts form >90% of what I do. I took a trip from Turkey (that had onboard wifi - awesome!) and I was basically online the whole time and landed in Houston with 30% battery remaining. I think the "lack of apps" argument is passé now anyway as MS's app store has all the big name apps now but Instagram.
Until these things do not use half their storage for the OS, then not even worth considering. 32 GB versions only had like 14 gigs available for usage. Crazy.
After you move/delete the recovery partition, then 29gb are avail. There is a wizard to help you do so. Also consider that RT comes with Office baked in and there's your difference. It's the same as an iPad. Not so crazy. (after you dig beyond the sensational headlines by the Apple fanboy clubs.) Pretty interesting stuff although I don't think it will fit into a use case for myself, especially with the Pro price point. How does it handle running Visual Studio and SQL Server?
been really itching to get a new laptop. I have had the e1505 dell laptop that has surprisingly lasted me about 7 years...I replaced the battery twice, the powercord twice, and switch out the harddrive once. Added more ram, and it still works just fine. However, this surface pro 2 has me a little excited. Alot of good reviews on the Surface pro minus the battery life, and I do hope that the Surface 2 addressed that. Regardless, i may just pre order this bad boy.
It basically did. 75% better battery life especially with these new Haswell processors. And then you have the power cover which adds even more. Of course all of this will have to be tested in the real world, but I think it'll be a lot better than the previous generation.
True, but a microSDXC card slot and USB 3.0 allow for easy expandable memory and recovery options. Easily my biggest selling point over the ipad
I have always been impressed with the Surface keyboard, odd isn't it? But I think the accessories are also a good selling point.
That and the USB port make it way better than the iPad, but some Droid based tablets have that option too. I just like the fact that it's basically a full computer on a tablet, which means I can do just about anything with it. Want to install Chrome and use that as your browser? No problem. Wanna plug in a controller to play emulator games? No problem. Want to install Steam and play those games instead of relying on the Windows app store? No problem. It covers all my bases.
I'm a developer so I'm more of a power user. The apps I run require plenty of memory and processing power. In researching this the first thing I had to ask was if it was powerful enough to run Visual Studio. This guy said he was more than satisfied with how it ran Visual Studio and that was on the first Pro. http://devmatter.blogspot.com/2013/05/surface-pro-as-my-main-computertablet.html I would say if the Pro can run Visual Studio without any problems then it is powerful enough for at least 75% of the general public. VS is a drain on every resource there is so your normal every day user would be just fine running a Pro 2 for sure.

Ok. In my case, I never did because I don't store much locally. All my storage is cloud so frankly, it's irrelevant to me as it would be for most customers. Plus I added an extra microSD I had laying around and I have a USB drive to save between personal/work devices. So to sum it up, if you need extra storage, your options are: 1. Add a microSD. 2. Add a USB drive 3. Store more in the cloud (w/ your free 200 gb of storage in SkyDrive or any of the other free cloud storage sites) 4. Buy the bigger device 5. Free up an extra 11gb of local space with the provided tip 6. Whine about it People that like to complain about the usable space argument like to complain.
You can plug in a USB hub, and then plug in multiple USB devices. I have a 4 port hub so I can have 2 xbox controllers hooked to it for multiplayer. Yeah, there's a full desktop mode that runs like an app. It won't be the screen it loads into on startup, but it's one click away. I use it frequently for navigating my server's files. It even has RDP capability, and it works just fine when I remote into my server.
