It's only stupid because a lot of guys won't have cool nicknames, if any at all, and will have to pick something lame.
allstar game idea isnt that bad, i wouldnt want it to beocme a regular but if its a one off then i guess im not against it
I'm not following. Maravich's jersey in Atlanta and New Orleans did say "Pistol" on the back rather than Maravich. What did TNT have to do with that?
Mediocre idea. It takes away mystique and inventiveness of nicknames. Would we have liked Hakeem with "Dream" on the back of his jersey? Gosh Allen Iverson with "The Answer", Steve Francis with "Franchise", Stephon Marbury with "Starbury" woulda represented everything wrong with the league. Will admit seeing "Admiral" on back of jersey woulda been kinda cool. (Ads on jerseys is but a sure thing now. So long little leftover purity of sport)
I'm not big into using nicknames, but I think this is a good business idea. Sells more jersies. Loosens up some of the league's stuffiness. Sets a preamble for putting ads on jersies (since they are no longer sacrosanct). Glorifies individual players. Increases customer relationship. As has been mentioned, the drawback is that some people have some weaksauce nicknames. ASG is not a good venue. There's confusion enough with having players from a bunch of different teams jumbled up in unfamiliar jersies. Though the ASG players are more likely to have decent and recognizable nicknames -- aside from Wade.
NBA is definitely not on the way up, these recent money making schemes are pathetic and things you can only laugh at and say: "How do they come up with this stuff?"
make it only for nba all star game/rookie game. return to each player wearing their individual team jerseys during the all star game. win-win situation for all.
Not everyone gets a nickname <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/WlxFIX8ZX1E?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> But seriously, why are nicknames so lame now? The only good ones are Manimal, Birdman, and Obi wan Ginobli. King James and Flash are both dumb, Kobe had to give himself one, and the rest are just abbreviated J-Lo style. (Kobe should've stuck with his Rucker Park name -Lord of the Rings >>>>>>>>>> Black Mamba.) The Beard is alright but doesn't say anything about Harden's game, and what if he shaves?! I'd go with Thelonious Dunk. His handles are off-tempo like a jazz musician, he likes to improvise, and he bears a striking resemblance.
Oh forgot to say, that Harden nickname idee isn't mine, stumbled across it on the internet looking for that KD video.
I have no problem with selling the gimmick jerseys but don't want to see them in games. It has the potential to get way out of hand, real fast. Too unprofessional for my taste.
