Quarterbacks can't do it all. Schaub was a part of the problem yesterday. Looking for a scape goat for yesterday's pathetic effort is what people with bias do. It falls on everyone.

Look guys, Schaub is not elite. I think pretty much everyone can agree with me. However, those guys that are calling for Schaub's head havent watched enough football to see that EVERY quarterback has bad throws, interceptions, fumbles, etc...

This season, Stafford has thrown a pick 6. Big Ben has thrown a pick 6 and fumbled a ball returned for a TD. Eli Manning has thrown a pick 6 (8 interceptions total in 3 games, btw). Sam Bradford has thrown a pick 6. Jay Cutler has fumbled a ball that was returned for a TD. Carson Palmer has thrown a pick 6. Drew Brees has thrown a pick 6.

Schaub has 6 TDs to 4 interceptions.
Brees has 6 TDs to 4 interceptions.
Big Ben, kaepernick, and RG III all have 4 interceptions, yet less TD passes than Schaub.

In other words, mistakes happen, it's part of the game. And given that Schaub isnt an elite QB, dont have the expectation that he plays like Aaron Rodgers. My opinion is that Schaub is capable enough to win a superbowl on this team, but...

I'll tell you what concerns me about Schaub...

The fact that he settles for what the defense gives him. He might be playing to what Kubiak wants/expects, but it's a dumb strategy. If you are going to take what the defense gives you (in yesterday's case, 5 yard routes), then you better make sure you are absolutely exceptional in that area. However, I think it's a complete cop out to not at least try to play aggressively and go against an outmatched Ravens secondary...you have the weapons on offense, so make a damn move, be aggressive, and force the defense to adjust to you...instead, we are playing into the defense's hands. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Outside of Schaub, the offense has struggled because of the offensive line. San Diego, Tennessee, and Baltimore have all been able to get very consistent pressure on Schaub. Seems like 80% of the pass plays have a defender that slaps an offensive lineman around and hurries Schaub. Doesnt matter who we have at QB, if we cant get good protection, we're going to stall on offense.

I think the biggest issue with the offense is Kubiak. I said this plenty of times last year, some agreed at the time, but most gave me crap about it...Kubiak coaches like a pu$$y...and as long as he has that mentality, the team will follow with a conservative, scared approach. You'll win against mediocre to bad teams purely because this team is so talented...but you cant have that mentality if you are going to want to beat up on the big dogs of the NFL. The big dogs not only have the talent, but they have ruthless coaches. We have the talent, but we're being led by a man that wears pink panties.

Boy do I ever agree with where you are coming from. When something is dangerous You KILL IT! . You don't dink around with it - you take it out, PERIOD. Instead, the Texans looked like they would have rather been somewhere else like having wings over at Wingstop. It's attitude more than anything - they need to start acting like they ARE the baddest MF's in the valley. Not just act but BELIEVE it. Until then, they will keep coming up short when it counts.

Rez, I agree with a lot of what you said here, but there is a major component missing between all of those "super-bowl caliber quarterbacks".

Every aforementioned quarterback is a play maker. They can evade a pass rush, and make something out of nothing. Extending plays is important in this league that is turning in to a passing league. If there is pressure that moves the pocket, Matt 95% of the time will turn it in to a negative play.

Tahj Boyd, Bridgewater, and Manziel should be options if they fall in to the second round.

I wouldnt mind drafting a QB with one of our early picks (We wont be picking high enough for the QBs you mentioned)...but, Brady and Manning are statues in the pocket, they rarely extend plays with their legs. Manning just gets rid of the ball quickly and Brady collapses at the first sign of pressure.

It's looking like more and more, Manziel is going to be going from a 2nd round grade to mid first. Boyd and Bridgewater will be top picks. I dont see the Texans making any moves that would put them in position to grab these guys. However, I do think this is the year to step up and grab a QB. I see Schaub as a Texan for one more season...it would be nice to have a rookie go through 1 year of backing up MS and learning the ropes from the sidelines.

(Updates on Andre and Duane?) Andre is doing better today. Shin bruise. Day to day John. He did come out okay. Duane did go on the field today with the trainers. He is better but day to day process.

(How concerned about Matt?) Concerned about a lot of things. We turned the ball over. We're doing a poor job of protecting the ball and we're not getting turnovers. It's not just the QB. Everyone is involved. We can do a better job up front and running routes. They all go together.

(Defense?) Exceptional in the first half. Held them to 60 yards in the first half. 2nd half, we played poorly as a team. Way too many penalties. Disappointed in that. We could have stayed there all day and played the way we did in the first half.

(Why the penalties and jumping off sides?) Offensively, a lot of work to do with our hands. We have to do some things to correct that. Snap count wise they got us 4-5 times. We had a taunting call, which we can't have. A couple PI calls. We set a franchise record for penalties. With that and turning the ball over, you're not gonna win. We addressed it today and gotta get it corrected this week.

(Play call for screen on 4th and 2.) Trying to catch a blitz and do jailbreak screen. We didn't do a good job. Poor call.

We can stay on schedule to help Matt. We knew that was a priority. We had issues with pressure outside and inside. We have to protect the QB better and he has to play better. A lot of things go with that.

(How do you get balance?) Matt can get in a rhythm throwing 20-25 times. We were slow in and out of the huddle. Communication system went down for awhile. I liked what we were doing for a quarter and a half and then all heck broke loose. We didn't respond to adversity yesterday.

(Play Action yesterday?) We had a chance to make a big play early and we didn't protect well and Matt throws it out of bounds. It hasn't been great early in the season. Too many negative plays from it. It's an area of concern.

(Ryan and Derek?) They battled. (laughing) We can help them. Ryan battled his tail off. He can play better. Newton can play better. Too many penalties between them but others have to help them too. They can't be on an island. They played hard but we didn't play very good.

(ST return?) Coverage was the same(as the one before it). Had 3 missed tackles on the play.

(DeAndre?) You want Andre (Johnson) out there all the time. DeAndre is playing well, making mistakes too. He's a rookie but a big contributor to what we're doing right now. Trying to get his game more consistent.

(Struggled getting the ball down the field vs Bal. Now Seattle is coming.) We have to figure out it, make bigger plays than what we're making. We have to get some consistency and get rid of the mistakes and play the game we want to play.

We gotta keep battling and go figure it out. Find a way to make more plays. Find some consistency.

(Bouncing back after the Green Bay loss last year and beating Baltimore big the next week) We made big plays against Baltimore last year. They made the big plays yesterday. It's a new week and great opponent. We understand what we're facing. We're trying to fix our problems.

(Lack of prep?) We always work hard but gotta work well too. Penalties is discipline as a football team. We got frustrated. We have to address and work at it. It's my job to make sure it doesn't happen.

(Some say you weren't ready to play?) We were ready to play. We played extremely well in the first quarter. We responded better to adversity in the first 2 weeks than yesterday.

(How is Ed Reed?) Feeling good. Ran good today. Played 40 plays or in that neighborhood. Didn't come out sore. Step in the right direction.

I hear Derek Carr is available to draft

I almost want to draft him to torture myself.

Good thing is that the QB class is stacked with talent. No reason why the Texans cant get a future QB to build around.

If Matt proves to be a failure this year in the playoffs, like I think he will. Do you trade most of your draft for one of the three. I would.

If Vince was a 1, Tebow was a 10 on the nauseating ESPN/sports radio hype, Manzeil is going to be a 100 when he gets to the NFL. Do not want.

Not to mention that I don't think he's got the mindset to sustain as an NFL QB. He performs well in big situations but I have my doubts about his work ethic and preparation which is half of the battle for pro QBs.

I say the same thing, than see his stat line against Alabama's defense which spits out NFL players every year.

1st round grade, and deservingly so.

    Manziel or Mariota.

Manziel is too risky for Bob. Not counting on him landing here. (Although to be fair, he's probably risky to a lot of other owners/GMs too.)

    Looking for a bright spot?

Oct. 21, 2012: Texans embarrass the Ravens 43-13. Ravens are without Ray Lewis and Ledarius Webb, two of their top defenders. Ravens marred by bad o-line play and questionable QB play. Ravens go on to get healthy, correct mistakes, win Super bowl.

Sept. 22, 2012: Ravens embarrass Texans 30-9. Texans are without Andre Johnson and Duane Brown, two of their top players. Texans marred by bad o-line play and questionable QB play. Texans go on to... ;)

Kidding of course, but it's ridiculous to be writing this team off for one bad game.

If we miss the playoffs or if Schaub bombs in the playoffs...it's time to start looking for a replacement. If that means giving up our current first and a future 1st to move up and get one of the top arms, so be it.

The knock on Manziel is his work ethic, dedication, and off field issues. He's gotta get it together if he wants GMs to take him seriously. But, it takes just one GM to ignore those weaknesses. In the end, I think Manziel goes in the 15-20 pick range.

This site would explode if we drafted him.

I heard one of those clowns on 610 say that all of Matt's guaranteed money will be paid after this season. Not sure if that is true or not.

Its at least 5-1 here that the QB play was the reason the offense struggled vs. the line play.

Consistent line play is important in this league... even more important for a young NFL QB who hasn't been developed yet. Elite teams have elite line play.

Texans already made that mistake once from 2002-2006. Doubt they ever make that mistake again considering the success they had once line play improved (on both sides of the ball).

As far as this year goes, it wasn't just Brown missing the game yesterday (because he's been pretty inconsistent ALL season, but is still better than anybody else). Wade Smith has been spotty, probably slow to come back after missing camp with injury. Right side of the line is still a question mark on the passing game.

No way rick smith uses a 1st on Manziel. Too risky and that doesn't seem like his style. I think Manziel will go to Jacksonville as the 1st pick in the second rd.
