Is there any way I can only back up my contacts without backing up all my photos (over 2,000 of them...)? I thought that was why you could check and uncheck certain items. I have everything unchecked except my contacts.

Cool, thanks. Gotta get used to this control center.

For battery life this is a great guide for all detailing a lot of settings you can customize that may affect it.

If you go to Settings -> iCloud -> Storage and Backup -> Manage Storage it will show you what backups it currently has in your 5GB and what each backup is currently storing. It will also tell you what the size of your next backup would be.

Also, if you have more than one device signed into the same Apple ID the backups of those devices count toward your 5GB.

ima_, I think it knows you don't just need "contacts" in order to restore if anything happens to your phone, so it brings lots more other stuff... you bring up an interesting point, though... do you need all the other crap, or just the contacts? Weird. Still, check those settings Rokkit is mentioning.

They want you to pay for more storage.

Unfortunately a lot of the tech world plays it from either angle. Early on this was the most secure thing outside of Fort Knox, now it's as open as a 7/11. Like I said it's as vulnerable as a password, if not a bit more so because it now has two vulnerability points. It's just like the picture password on my Surface. It's great and fast, but it wouldn't be hard to figure out what my password was after some time.

From the city of New York urging its users to upgrade to iOS7 because of increased security to the writers of Gizmodo and tech enthusiasts like David Pogue saying this thing was super secure it's been a long standing misconception that this is super secure. Heck, there were users out there suggesting that Apple let the fingerprint API be released to replace passwords in software, as well as people actually wanted this thing to be the universal password for their iPhone using apps, the web, and other functions. It's a nice feature, but be all end all to security it is not.

Underscores the need for a third party Mobile Device Management software that sets standards on user's phones.

iOS 7 itself doesn't necessarily specifically mean a focus on the fingerprint sensor.

In any case, I meant links or something I just wanted to check out. I hadn't yet read these reviews that were hyping the fingerprint sensor as the end all of security, so I was just curious. For whatever reason, I can't seem to find Pogue's review at all (other than a youtube video).

I guess you can't pick and choose what you want to back up? I really don't need to back up my 2,000 pictures or 200 videos. I have them all saved on my laptop at home. I don't want to delete them from my phone either because they are all of my boys and I like to look at them when I get bored.

When I do what Rokkit says, it tells me I have 5GB of 5GB available. I guess you can't pick and choose what you back up, which kind of blows. Oh well.

    Telling.

"Videos of all my boys" Riiight.

Too ashamed for the Apple Tech to see what you've downloaded onto your smartphone.

I'm not sure about the writers/reviews, but upgrading to iOS7 has nothing to do with the fingerprint sensor because you still wouldn't have that on your device.

This should be done - it's no different than laptops that have the even-less-secure little fingerprinter sensor or can save your password in your browser. It's a convenience thing there, and it's even more convenient on a phone where typing a password is a bit of a pain.

You should be able to. It will list what devices are being backed up. When you tap in that device it will show you what's included. (As long as you are on that device)

Anyone have any insight into which stores may have some in stock (preferably Best Buys because they have the best trade in value)? I'd like to get two 16GB 5s for my parents.

If you're interested in Best Buy, you can just go to their website, pick the phone (color/memory) you want, and then click "Check Stores" and it will tell you where there is inventory. Not sure if it's 100% accurate, but it's a starting point.
