To me this week it's not even so much the loss that bums me out as it's other "mediocre" teams able to beat the elite ones. Colts going into SF and whipping them. Bengals coming back against the Packers. Yet we got whipped by a Ray Rice-less Ravens team that just beat Cleveland by only 10 points. Anyway, I still maintain that I'll defer judgement until the playoffs. But at this rate, even making the playoffs seems to be no longer certain. If we don't make the playoffs for any reason, we need a regime change.
On the flip side, maybe that speaks to the parity in the league, which bodes well for the Texans. I'm just extremely underwhelmed with this team so far this season, after all the talk this offseason. This team could easily end up at 6-10 and I wouldn't be surprised, or it could turn it around, and end up at 11-5 and make some noise. Either way, something has to change. Cautiously optimistic...

One thing that worries me is that it seems the AFC is more competitive conference now. Few years ago it was the top heavy conference where everyone had to go through the Steelers, pats, or colts pretty much while the NFC was the conference where anyone could come out on top. Now it seems to have flipped. The NFC seems to be the top heavy conference while the AFC...well we have no idea. I honestly don't think the Broncos are that much better than everyone is making them out to be. To played well against the Ravens but the Giants may not be a quality win right now, G-men are getting blown out every week it feels like.
Yup. That was kind of what I was thinking while going through the scores. Before the season, I didn't believe our AFC South champion was in any jeopardy. So I was going to kind of lull through the season and hope they get lucky in the playoffs. That no longer seems to be the case. I'm not so sure parity's good for us. Stretching back to last season, we're 7-0 in close games(7 or less points). Including 3-0 in OT. And as much as I want to say the Texans are somehow clutch, I can't help but feel they were lucky more than they were better. And if our luck ever stops, that's when I'm afraid the wheels will come off.
The Ravens were terrible last year, and won it all. The Packers started 3-3 in their SB win, started the next season 13-0 slowed down and got bounced in their first playoff game. The Giants muddled through both SB seasons, started 11-1 in 08 then crawled to the finish and got bounced in the first round. Now I'm not saying i feel confident the Texans will turn it on late, but all along I said the regular season is largely meningless at the this point, I'm not changing my opinion now. I still think they will make the playoffs and hopefully thats when we will be playing our best.
Yep. It amazes me how much stock people put in one game. Seeding doesn't even matter in the NFL, just win the division and get into the playoffs then worry about match-ups. Unfortunately though it seems like winning the division is not going to be the cake walk it was the last two years.
This team has the potential to peak late. Cushing, Reed, and Foster are working back from various injuries. Parts of the OLine are young. We have a brand new 2nd WR. There is much improvement that can be made in-season IMHO.
Have any of y'all looked at the schedule if we don't get it together early there will be no time to peak late or turn it on at the end of the year
Seattle at home will be a 50/50 proposition. SF sucks now, we should take them. That means we will have 3.5 wins and 1.5 losses after 5 weeks of the season. I'll take it!
I know, in SF the fans are doing the exact same thing, it's like a mirror. Oh no, we're playing like crap and the Texans are coming to town, gonna be hard to win that the way we are playing. Completely choosing to ignore how poorly we too seem to be playing. All the chicken littles on this board need to chill the f**k out. There may be a time to panic, but we're nowhere near it yet.
There are peaks and valleys in a NFL season, so I'm not pressing the panic button, but at the same time, we have M.Schaub who controls our fate.
If you're going to have an awful showing and lose, it's better that it be one of your road toughies. The worst is when it's a home game against a creampuff. I don't like what I've seen from this offense to start the year, but the panic button doesn't exist on this side of Halloween.
