Casari's on Windfern does good work. Not sure if they work on Toyotas or not. Call and see. Ask for Jorge.

How do you not know the year of your car? That's 20 years old. Buy a new car.

Yeah, tough call since you have a '93, but the mileage is still the same, right? Unless you have that wrong too.

And you can't think of 3k getting you a "new" car, but just a different used car.

What's the mileage? Any car under $3k is going to need ~$1k in work to get it running semi reliably.

164670 on the mileage. had its engine replaced in 04 i believe.

So just had full diagnostic on my car.

Brakes are bad and could stop functioning in the rain at any minute. Mechanic stressed that this is one of the top priorities. The cylinders are broken, and its running metal on metal.

Need a new engine support to hold engine in place.

    Engine has a leak.

Transmission also has a leak and will require to be taken out of the car because it has so many.

For the price, its 120$ to fix the brakes, just labor, parts not included. The parts are estimated 30$ each.

For fixing the engine oil leak and transmission oil leak, since the transmission has to be taken out, labor will cost 650$ total for both. If it turns out the transmission needs to be replaced, that's an additional.

So at most i will have to spend 950$ to get this car running safely. Versus getting a new used car for 3000+ and having to repair that as well.

Actually $950 seems okay for that amount of work.

Yeah. Anyway, what are some ways a repair shop can **** me over? This one isn't exactly reputable, only went there coz i was driving by. But they seem like okay people.

If they aren't reputable and you know that, why take the chance and go to them? At least get a 2nd opinion.

Actually reputable is the wrong word for it. I meant they're just not as well known and i just found them on the highway.

    cheap fix.

Get a 2nd opinion on the brakes.

Might need brakes, rotors, and maybe calipers. easy job and parts not too expensive.

Add oil when needed, add tranny fluid when needed and calculate the loss per miles.

    Worry about engine mount later.

    drive for a year.

The tranny fix could cost you $2K in parts and labor, so you might not want to go there yet.

so this morning i drove a bit and when i got home when i placed the gear in park the engine kept rising (increasing sound) so i immediately turned it off. when i tried to start it up again, it wouldn't. maybe it will work later.

it's time to get a new car.

i tried surfing on truecar.com. i didn't know you could pay monthly for a used car vs paying whole. buying from dealerships is legit, right? i wouldn't mind paying 88 bucks for 60 months for a 2001 camry.

    https://usedcars.truecar.com/car/Toyota-Camry-2001/4T1BG22K21U864262

    that one.

any tips when buying from dealerships?
