indochino.com does custom suits. I haven't used it before but I've read that they're pretty legit. Make sure you have a few people take your measurements to get a good idea of your size.

Bought a $1300 suit at Jos A Bank for $400 online. Opened the box, removed the suit and it looked and felt like a $400 suit. Immediately returned it

Just bought a suit yesterday from Jos. A Bank for about $300.00 with their fee for alterations. Like another poster said, you can save a lot by buying a sport coat and pant separately. The suit doesn't necessarily have to match the pant 100%. We're allowed a lot of liberties in today's fashion that weren't afforded in the past, so take advantage!
you shouldn't have gone to Jos. A Bank; Even $300 at that place is a mistake. If anyone is going to go with a sport coat and pants, they should have considerable contrast between the two; Dont try to come close in color or you will look silly.
As some of the other posters have recommended Zara is terrific for a good suit. Their fits are very nice and the quality is better than express. I purchased a suit the other day for about 180 and I love it.
Frankly, if you are expecting your body shape to change significantly (I assume via weight loss/muscle gain, unless you're still growing), I would just take your current suits back to the tailor and have him adjust. As other have said, the key is to have your suit fit you in the shoulders. So unless your shoulder muscles have gotten huge (or they were huge and shrank), your tailor should be able to make it work. There's no point in settling for a lower quality suit that you'll only want to discard in a couple of years. Better you save your money and get something that you'll be happy with for years. BTW, Brooks Brothers usually offer their 1818 suits for around $600 right after Christmas. This includes in-house tailoring. That's what I got myself late last year, and while the tailoring wasn't quite up to the quality that I get from Martin Tailor's, it was more than good enough to have the suit ready for a business trip.
