It's not jeremy Lin . It's the film maker who made the documentary .
Jeremy is the subject of the movie.

Another Tugg location has met their threshold target. La Mirada, California. So the movie WILL be shown in the theater there, since it has now been paid for with sufficent reserved tickets, just like Dallas. So that makes 12 cities where it will be released in theaters so far. There's still time for other Tugg locations to meet their thresholds, for people who want the big screen experience.

And the Dallas location not only has met its threshold requirement, but it may actually become SOLD OUT. There are only 2 more tickets available at this time before the theater is sold out.

I wonder if Tugg works for Canada. I'm surprised someone hasn't set up a Toronto site or something.

Do you think 8 year olds with little interest in sports would get anything out of the film or would it be over their heads? The neighbor kids seem only interested in video games and destroying things.

I rented the video online from Amazon for $4 and watched it. I would say if your kid gets inspired from watching movies, maybe the fact that Lin really was about to get cut again and was very nervous which caused him to play badly and he started playing really well once he decided to "_uck it, I am going down swinging leave it to God." That might inspire your kid. But I didn't think the film was all that good for the amount of time they spent on Lin; I thought they could have gotten a lot more from the Lins and his friends. The film does, however, show why it might be so hard for unheralded players from succeeding in NBA; it's like a self-fulfilling prophesy when you are not given much time to prove you can play. They have so much pressure, so they start rushing shots and rushing everything, leading to lousy play. I think in Lin's case, the fact that he was indeed talented and he kept on improving his game and not giving up -- along with the perfect storm of everything -- created the Linsanity. I would give the movie 6 out of 10 stars, and I am a Lin fan but have to be objective about the movie. I especially cracked up when some D League player told Lin something like "You PG? Just pass me the ball." And Lin's face was "What the _uck?" I bet that guy is still playing in D-League or not playing anymore. I was actually surprised that with all the time the director spent following Lin, that he could come up only with this movie. I expected something better. Worth $4 but not worth $25 -- that's my opinion.

Any other websites other than Amazon have the movie? I tried to rent it but it doesn't work outside the US.

I just watched this movie last night after finding out I could just rent it on Amazon. I pretty much thought the same things. I know Lin declined being filmed until the last year of college or something, but I still thought the filmmaker would have a lot more "exclusive" footage than what was presented since he filmed for about 2-3 years by my count.

I'm not religious, but I don't mind if other people are (unless you're crazy about it or push it on other people). While his religion is a theme in the movie, it's just because that's who he is and he's not preaching about it. I would even say they should take out that cross in place of the "t" in "Linsanity" because the movie isn't that religious and that little font change makes it seem like it is more religious than it really is.

That D-league footage was definitely fascinating. Especially the one mentioned above. It kind of makes me question the point of the D-league if it's just an every man for himself kind of play and all they care about are their individual stats. Also, how did the filmmakers not talk about his triple double in the D-league? That feat is still pretty special, even in the D-league.

I enjoyed the doc other than wanting more fresh footage. I'm actually Taiwanese-American, from CA, same age and class of 2010, and studied Economics. My parents were also from Taiwan and I was born and raised here with, what my GF claims, "the same crappy Chinese language skills as him." Not religious though and what really baffled me was his parents' support of him playing basketball. Super weird in a first generation Chinese household. So for someone like me, I give this film 8/10 and for everyone else, 7/10. Not bad at all, just not as good as it could have been. Definitely a good watch if it's $4 and NOT movie ticket prices. Go watch Prisoners. That was a pretty good one :p

PS. Not a LOF (I hate how I have to anticipate putting this caveat down here) and I started becoming a fan of the NBA and the Rockets because of Yao (when I was like 12). Definitely loved how Yao was the "old, wise man" with the final words of the movie. Not sure why he didn't talk in English, but eh, whatever.

Saw it via Amazon last night and it was okay but nothing we haven't seen or known before. Technically not great either and noticably awkward pacing.. Some nuggets though in terms of things he said such as how people might laugh at him for thinking that he'd break the rotation, become a starter, and win a championship which was his plan, and how they won't be laughing once it happens. Nothing to write home about except to say that you saw it, imo.

I reserved tickets for this, and I'm still planning to see it at the theater. IMO it's important to support independent films like this and the positive message they bring.
It's a shame that people on this board would pay $12 to see the latest Hollywood crap fest @ the box office, but would rather stream 'Linsanity' for free. Maybe it's not all that great, but without audience support, the film makers won't be able to make better movies after this.

Interesting. Where could I have watched it for free? I know you're not talking about $4 7-day rental on Amazon or $14 to buy.

I'm curious as to which movie are you watching on Amazon? Are you folks watching the Sundance version or the final, theatrical version?

I'm sure if anyone looks hard enough, there are some free (and probably illegal) streaming sites that have it. But the point is, Amazon pays almost zero royalties to show these movies on demand. So to the film maker, it's almost like people watching it for free.

Um, no. If their distributor has an agreement with amazon, the royalties might be somewhat low with the implied assumption that you get higher volume, but they aren't "almost zero", and it really depends on the deal the distributor has. If they are self publishing through something like amazon createspace, the royalties are 50% (or possibly more if they negotiated).

That doesn't make any sense.. Why have it available on Amazon if they get nearly zero royalties?? And I don't believe there is a free version anywhere on these internets. I paid 17.99 (or 19.99, I forget) for the HD version. What's wrong with that?

I am not that religious also, but Lin is what he is, so of course, the movie had to deal with it. I do believe that Lin's attitude of "Screw it, I am going down playing for God" really did inspire him to play well; and I definitely give Lin a lot of respect for having dealt with discrimination and rising above it; he's a better man than me. Couldn't believe that some students in an Ivy League school were chanting discriminatory stuff to Lin in basketball games when there were/are many Asian-American in Ivy League. I went to an Ivy League myself, but if I ever heard that kind of stuff against a fellow Asian-American athlete (or any athlete) while I was watching the game, I would have done something violent or started yelling similar discriminatory stuff to athletes of their race. I actually think Lin is too humble and that he has to get that swagger in his game. For taking all that **** and getting paid $25 Million USD, I admire Lin greatly. Anyway, I wasn't too impressed by the director who could have done more. I would give the movie 7 stars at the most.

I am still surprised that the movie was available at Amazon at this low price when they are trying to get theaters to play it. I would have waited one or two months before making it available at Amazon.

Agreed. Except for several minutes of interesting footage, nothing to write home about.

Yeah, I guess the distributor Ketchup Entertainment must have dropped the ball on that. That, or CAA already signed a deal with Amazon before they sold the rights to Ketchup in July. Doesn't look like it will sell many tickets at the box office.
