Your key word in this response is "hidden". This is why if you're in a corporate or professional job, they don't influence in promotion/hiring. :) It also matters if you had one or few BEFORE getting hired, and you gradually added them as you worked in a place that didn't notice the subtle changes. HIDDEN, one more time, is the key word. Those don't influence hiring decisions, and it will be very unethical of employers to ask that.

Again, no one has said that with having one or some "you will NEVER have a job" or that you won't be hired. The survey/study only says that your chances decrease.

Waiting for your response to Ziggy.
    EDIT: I see you answered.

I'd say its mostly the tattoo rise in females where its a bigger deal than the guys. (Why a female would consider ink as body enhancement is beyond me.)

And the main thing thats wrong with tattoos is it assumes that most people actually have TASTE. And thats FAR FAR not the case, in my opinion. The predicted fail rate is just a bit too high.

(And yes I admittedly would have more skepticism of someone with a lame tat, if I was in a professional setting. But then 5 out of 9 will probably be tatted so what can you do but accept)

Its humorous that those IN their 30's would be considered "conservative".

The generation of Snoop Dogg / NWA, Nine Inch Nails, Kurt Cobain, raves and Quentin Tarantino

It'd depend on the industry and the age of those in charge. I'd say most in their 30's are following the protocol of the older generation already in charge. And most don't REALLY WANT to "WORK" to begin with.

I don't have any visible tattoos (just 1 on my lower leg), but this is true. You can't afford me :p

I don't have any tattoos and have never really had any interest in getting one until recently (thought about getting my sons initials on my arm). My wife has a couple small ones and wants another on her shoulder. She's currently student teaching and has worn outfits where one has been visible. She's also been commended many times by the staff, her host teacher, and the students for how great she is.

To me, there are different degrees of being tattooed. If you have a full sleeve and it's up your neck, as a hiring manager, I'm going to think you don't always make the wisest decisions. It's going to affect my thinking. As will a tramp stamp. (Do other guys really find this attractive? I dread 20-30 years from now when the girls that have them start to become elderly. That's what I think about when I see them and it's kind of nauseating to me.) However, I likely wouldn't notice the rose on a female's ankle or the barbed wire on the upper arm. Those are so common now that they just don't phase me.
