The typical American family makes less than it did in 1989

The Rojo family is not your typical family. But we feel compassion for those who have been developmentally crippled by the poor economy and our malaise-inducing welfare system.

Enough passion to pay enough taxes to return to the days of cheap tuition and more heavily subsidized student loans. How about the days of a minimum wage high enough to make a dent in college tuition.

Not that much compassion I doubt.

Most the damage was done during bush years. Obama just decreased it a little bit.

You're gonna want to cut the percentage of high school grads going by half (back to the '90s levels), tear down all the 24-hour Rec Centers, get rid of the newer apartment style dorms with wi-fi and digital cable, and get rid of any dining facilities that aren't cafeteria based and either centrally located or tied to one of the bigger dorms.

State colleges trying to keep up with the small wealthy colleges with big endowments might be part of the problem.

I am not that sure that twice as many students from high school go to the four year colleges with the facilities you mention as did back in the 90's.

Any cites to back up this assumption.

This actually made me laugh out loud.

    Tougher times, for sure.

Not sure if everyone needs a BA in sociology. There is a supply and demand issue at hand.

I have friends with college degrees that have made a mockery of their time spent in college. They have no more real-world skills than high school drop outs (perhaps a bit exaggerated). Most of them are unbearably unwilling to do the slightest amount of manual labor, even if it means they will then have the opportunity to move out of their mom's house by age 30.

The Rojo family does however give thanks to those recent grads with the entrepreneurial zeal, that fire in the belly, the spirit to conquer all and make a name for themselves.

Clinton started the slow decline by unleashing Wall Street to disastrous proportions. Also changed the tone of his party to more corporate driven as if what's good for them is good for America.

Bush went overboard with it, but the check on corporate power that came from Dems have eroded pretty nastily over the last 20 years.

It did however give them more political power on the national stage.

Slight issue with the thread title. It's not like the chart is comparing 50-year-olds today to 26-year-olds in 1989.

Bush financial crisis, manufactured debt ceiling crisis, sequester. The modern GOP has been a catastrophe for the economy. From a policy standpoint, the main things holding income and employment back in the last two years have been policy uncertainty and government spending cuts.

try Obama's piss poor leadership. He hasn't focused on jobs. He instead lurches from crisis to crisis without a strategy or plan. It's the definition of a terrible leader.

So Texx tell me again how this Congress would have passed job bills and how it is the Presidents job to introduce and foster legislation as the minority in The House.

Which is right about the same time that Rush Limbaugh slithered into the public spotlight.

But I agree with the previous poster on Bill Clinton. Once Democrats started acting like Republicans, it's began a slow decent into hell for the working class.

I agree on Clinton, he ceded too much too Wall Street in his effort to wield power; but sadly you don't control anything without the backing of the money. You have to use their inherent guilt to get any compassionate legislation; which he is better at now than as the President.

So threatening to shut down government and allowing the country to default as a bargaining chip to defund obamacare is a good economic negotion strategy? Obama is ready to talk and congress has drawn a red line. That is very irresponsible governing. He has nothing to work with if congressmen are going to be this ruthless.

As per normal... Obama can do no wrong, there is alway somebody to point a finger at.

God forbid we point it at our beloved president. It was Bush's fault before Obama and after and now it is congress. I would hate for somebody to own up to their own record as a president.
