Good restaurant near Post Rice Lofts?

    On Texas/Travis.

I'm in charge of booking the rehearsal dinner. Looking for a restaurant near the Rice Hotel/Post Rice Lofts (not Sambuca) for about 20 people. I guess the groom is supposed to pay for this crap, so I'd like to get a place that's not too expensive. Maybe $15-20/plate if that's possible.

Is there a place within a few blocks of there like that? Doesn't have to be within walking distance, but I'd prefer it be close because old folks unfamiliar with downtown Houston will be going.

    TIA bruhthahs

Hearsay is nearby. They have decent food with stuff for everybody. They also make great drinks there

I'd check out Birraporetti's. It's at 500 Louisiana so walking distance from your location and in your price range. Food is decent too.

edit: there's also a Groupon for 50% off not sure what the fine print is though.

Sambuca is right there. I know you said (not Sambuca) but I think you should consider it regardless.

    Sambuca.

They're catering the wedding, so that's why I wanted to do something else.

I really thought I'd get more suggestions. I only go downtown for Sundance or Rockets, so I don't know where to look.

You could try Treebeards. Hear me out. They cater dinners like this. A little known secret is they have menu selection that aren't there regular entries. You can pretty much get anything for large parties

Beautiful location. Call them and ask what menus they can offer

Rehearsal dinners can get out of hand if you don't have set menus

Check out The Grove, never been there but it looks nice, they have private rooms and do set menus, it's a Robert del Grande restaurant. If you want something more casual, definitely check out Treebeard's like heyp said.

How far are you willing to travel? You made it sound like walking distance.

Live right there at this "Rice Hotel" you speak of...it's Post Rice Lofts!

Azuma isn't too bad, itself. Treebeards is hit or miss. Those two are your best options that are walking distance IMO.

Driving is fine, but the closer and simpler the drive, the better. Old folk not used to towns bigger than 10,000 people will be with us, and I sure as hell ain't driving them.

I actually knew that. Damnit. Wish I knew how to edit the thread title.
Thanks. Good suggestion, but my fiance had a bad food experience there once and will never go again.

So far it sounds like Treebeards or Hearsay or Azuma or The Grove. Since we can drive a little, let's say within a 2 mile radius, are there any other suggestions?

Yeah, I just found it recently and have enjoyed it a few times. The interior is also really cool looking.

Two miles? That gets you into Montrose, btw. But I assume you want to stay downtown.

Are there going to be kids, as well as the "old folks not used to towns bigger than 10,000."

Maybe you could take them the Aquarium restaurant. Tell them it's one of our biggest tourist attractions.
