Not sure about the question in the OP, but I will say that I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free.

And I won't forget the men who died who gave that right to me.

Yes we are the greatest country.

I do believe we are declining somewhat. It's not necessarily due to something we are doing wrong, but more of as the rest of the world is becoming wealthier and using more natural resources we simply can't sustained the disproportionately high natural resource usage per person that we used to enjoy in the past several decades.

Will we remain the greatest country forever? Most likely not.

Wow, what a bunch of garbage. I knew there was a reason I was avoiding this one.

The so-called "moderate" spews hateful liberal BS, and everyone eats it up. Unanswered question: If America is not the greatest country in the world, then which one is?

Who the f* even comes close?

This is why my kid is in private school.

We are certainly one of the greatest nations on this planet and I'm proud to call this my home. But I don't think us or anyone else can boast of being the best. To do so is to ignore our many faults and to live with a very narrow-minded point of view.

Who is the so-called moderate, and who is this "everyone"? 7 people essentially answered "yes" to the question. No one answered "no", although some people said it was a silly question or impossible to measure or other non-responses. Did you even read any of the thread?

Hard to tell when USA history is only about 250 years.

but the greatest country do not start a war in very 3 years and have 1000 military bases worldwide. On this pace, USA is closer to the worst country this planet has ever seen.

For all the people claiming the USA is on the decline... That argument has been spouted since the founding. I don't see an overall decline. There are declines in important areas but growth in others... and it is also in relation to the rest of the world.

"Greatest"? Well I would argue globally we are as powerful right now as ever and have a level of military domination not seen in a long time. Creativity and entrepreneurship and the spirit of making money is stronger here than anywhere I have been (includes Hong Kong)... However family ties in America suck, there is a self image problem in America and our basic priorities are screwed. I would rather raise my son in a rural farming area of Ireland or parts of Sweden than America... Hell the quality of basic life in Ireland and Italy is higher than America.

    Not really, it's just marketing.

I think the whole "freedom" thing is overrated. Not the idea itself, but how much of it as Americans we have compared to other nations. I think more than freedom, it's the "stability" factor that plays more of a role in determining how "free" one is in life. Conflict IMO takes away more freedom than form of government. I would prefer to live under a stable, economically healthy dictatorship than a democracy plagued by famine and border wars.

I wouldn't say it's marketing so much as public perception is behind the times. There was certainly a time when I can say that living in America is great simply because you live in America. But America today is certainly a shell of its former self in comparison to other countries.

At least from the people I've talked to, America holds much more appeal to older people than younger ones.

I love my country and fight for it......but saying America is the greatest country on earth is like saying America is the hottest Waffle House waitress.

Falsely advertised, but not an over-rated right.

Anyway... Greatest? Any argument for or against is an opinion.

No it isn't. People don't keep crossing the Mexican border by the thousands because of 'marketing'. Even the ones who get caught and deported try to come back because they have experienced America and know that even living here illegally is better than anywhere else they can get to.

Better than anywhere they share a border with. Out of three.

You said an endless line of foreigners not a group of Mexcans running across the border because it's the closest country with wealth. Why does someone from Moldova pick the US? American products, media, celebrity, it's all very powerful.

    I didn't say border

Go find me the Moldovan who up roots his life and moves to America because of the celebrities and media. Most American celebrities bash America anyways (For example look at the OP's clip).

A Moldovan comes for the same reason most do . More opportunity here than anywhere else. That's not hype

You said "border" in the post I responded to. And Moldovans go to France and other large Western or economically prosperous countries in similar numbers.

Many here seem to really overestimate the opinion foreigners have of the US. It's not even the most visited country in the world (France is).

No I said ' living here illegally is better than anywhere else they can get to'. You are referring to me talking about the US-Mexican border. That's incredibly dishonest of u.

That doesn't contradict anything I said.
