Mr. Alexis had been detached from the Navy in 2011 after an earlier gun arrest in Ft. Worth, Texas, a U.S. official said Monday. Mr. Alexis had joined the Navy in 2007, another official said.

He gets kicked out of the Navy for repeated firearm violations. And then he gets a job as a Navy contractor? If true then somebody certainly messed up a background investigation, to say the least.

By Monday afternoon, a portrait of Alexis had begun to emerge. He left the Navy in 2011, and until recently was a regular—if unusual—figure at a Buddhist temple.

Alexis spoke Thai, the language of many other temple worshippers, and also worked as a waiter at a Thai restaurant. At the Wat Busayadhammavanaram Meditation Center, Alexis came to meditate twice a week. But he still seemed so tightly wound that at least one worker there sought to avoid him.[/quote]

Well this is certainly odd behavior for a Buddhist. Starting to sound more and more like this guy was a lone loon.

Seems like the early reports for these mass shootings always say there may be more than 1 gunman but it almost never is the case.

Nothing, really, except: people who think it's always Muslim extremists, guy with an agenda, people against POTUS, people for guns will defend this, people against guns will blame guns, people who want revenge will want us to bomb another country, people who want to defend the shooter will say it's a conspiracy. That sort of thing.

I kind of feel like this story has been a little bit under the radar as well. I'm not saying that as a critique of the media or as a political statement; it's just what I've noticed today.

Granted, I've been at work all day, but I didn't hear anyone in my office mention it as they milled around and when I checked Facebook a couple of times during the day, I only saw a couple of people mention it and one of those people works in D.C.

The government's response. The media's handling of the event.

So, you're leaning more now toward a lone loon category instead of Buddhist terrorism?

So, in other words, nothing of substance.

So far hasn't been about guns, but these mass shootings always seem to come up in gun rights debates.

Let me guess. The dudes with the guns were right/left wing nutjobs and they only shot left/right wing exemplary citizens.

Yes, it sounds that way. A lone Buddhist loon. Don't see many of those, I think this is probably a first.

I guess the meditation didn't work.
