Best thing to come out of this game might just be the fact Schaub may have realized he has a hell of a target in Hopkins and doesn't have to zero in on Andre.
I like our offense better when we forget about the running game...it worked against the Chargers, it worked against the Titans, and it worked in 2009. I feel like Schaub is much better when he just has to fling it all over the field, rather than play game manager.
Sure, but then you barely win games vs all teams... Rather than winning comfortably in games where they run the ball at an elite level (while playing respectable defense). The pass game can regress once teams stop respecting the run... evidenced by how they ended last season.
I feel like trying to run to open up the pass isnt working for the Texans...I think it'll be easier the other way around. Pass first, then run when the defense is on their heels.
They usually do pass first to start games. They also established the run early today as well. The o-line protection needs to be more consistent to become a mostly passing team. They got better as the game went on (and the titans stopped bringing the heat every down after Schub started getting in a rhythm).
I was just trying to say that saying we won despite Schaub was a gross over-exagerration. Two of the interceptions were tipped at the line (considering how many times Watt does that we can't really blame that on the QB) and the 4th quarter one was on 3rd and 20 when Schaub clearly expected Hopkins to do a comeback but he continued on a fly. QB's throw INT's, its bound to happen. I think the bigger take aways are that Schaub is more than a "game-manager" and the passing game can keep us in games, the Run + D formula isn't our only way to win. This is a huge positive, considering the conservative Run + D formula the Texans cash in on in the regular season ins't exactly as easy to execute in the playoffs against other elite QBs.
Yes. Felt like a lot of drives get stalled when we go run-run-run-run until we hit a 3rd down, then an incompletion kills the drive. Also, there were some run-play-action incompletion-completion short of sticks drives too. Schaub also seems to be more in the zone when we go pass-first then incorporate RB's in screens and draws.
Schaub runs the hurry up surprisingly well and can also sling it when needed. That dragon is never unleashed until it is absolutely necessary, though.
The Texans passing game doesn't regress with the running game. If anything, it's better when they abandon the run. It's Kubiak's whole "making the defense guess run or playaction" that fails(not regress, but simply fail) when the running game's not working. Because that type of offense is totally predicated on defense overcommitting to the run game. I don't have a problem with the Texans going with that old school approach when we had arguably the best OLine in the NFL and one of the best backs of the NFL. Now we have neither. So we shouldn't rely so much on that approach.
What else can he say ..YOU SUCK ! Gotta try and salvage his shattered confidence Looking back on his college stats , not overly impressed .. He had a decent final year but overall not so much .. also he only attempted 8 kicks at 50+ his entire time with the aggies .. must be a reason they didn't test his leg more ?
Texans will have to play tougher in the next few games... Seattle secondary are too dominant... Our Run offense has to be successful against them and we have to be able to contain The Beast...
People who thought the Titans were gonna be a cake walk were stupid, that ridiculous in Vegas must have to some people's heads. Titans played us tough and you expect that from a division rival. One mistake by Schaub and Hopkins and 3 missed fg and all the haters wouldn't be in their holes right now. It's a long season and I expect us to get better. Last 3 seasons we started out ridiculously hot and looked to be the class of the AFC early, then we peaked to early and tumbled downwards. We have playmakers on both sides of the ball and I have no doubt we make the playoffs. You hope to get to the playoffs healthy and see what happens from there. You don't have to dominate the entire season to win the trophy, look at the recent champs, all wild card teams. Also, the niners have dominated from end to end last 2 season and have nothing to show for it. Anyways carry on haters, I'll enjoy the ride.
This is pretty much exactly how I have been feeling. The '09 Schaub led passing attack was way better then people remember or give credit for. Combining that lethal air-raid offense with the defense we have now gives the Texans a much better chance of making a deep run in the playoffs then the conservative Run N' D combination.
Schaub has maturity and experience... but Keenum has an arm and has poise. Not to be disrespectful to Schaub, but his lack of QB ability is the reason why we almost lost Week 1 & 2. I just want Kubiak to let Keenum play an entire game... just once. And let Schaub rest. I know that'd never happen, for multiple reasons. But it doesn't hurt to keep dreaming it might happen.
Great win by the Texans. It's not easy to win on Sundays, especially against divisional opponents. The Texans now have sole possession of first place in the division. Fun fact: This game was the 500th regular season overtime game in NFL history.
