Lonnie Blewer is mistaken about James Harden being a defender.

I don't call 13.7 ppg with the Jazz one season and 8ppg career points zero offense. Little but there is.

Ronnie Brewer on joining the Rockets: 'This is definitely a place that you want to be'

Free agent forward Ronnie Brewer arrived in Houston late Monday afternoon to take his physical and then he will sign with the Rockets.

He said he is not concerned with the fact that his Rockets deal is partially guaranteed.

"I wasn't worried too much about it," Brewer said in an interview with FOX 26 Sports. "If I come in and I do what I'm supposed to do, all of that goes out the window.

"I'm going to come in and play as hard as I possibly can. From the time I step on the court I'm in training camp, and hopefully the coaches, the players and the fans can take notice of that.

He said he considered re-signing with the Thunder.

Brewer said he also considered returning to the Chicago Bulls, where he played for two years, or rejoining the Utah Jazz where he was drafted in the first round out of Arkansas in 2006.

The L.A. Lakers were also on his radar, but Brewer thought the Rockets would be the best fit for him.

"They play my style," Brewer said. "Dwight Howard is a defender, but can get up and down the court.

"Same thing with James Harden, (Chandler) Parsons and Jeremy Lin. We're going to get up and down the court. You need defenders. I think I feel both of those (areas)."

He knows roster spots will be at a premium, but like playing for a partially-guaranteed contract, Brewer said he is ready to compete.

"If I come in and do what I need to do, play at a high level, defend at a high level and knock down shots when I have the opportunity, I feel like I can make this team.

"Whenever they reached out to me it was a compliment, but I knew if I came here they were going to expect a lot out of me and play at a high level. So that's what I intend to do.

"This is definitely a place that you want to be."

I'd rather sign a veteran PF like Kenyon Martin, don't know if he's still on the market.

Isn't it great to finally hear free agents say this. Took a long time.

Brewer is tweeting that this is "a two year deal with a partial guarantee."

What are the terms of his contract, does anybody know?

Let's hope the wing players that come out of training camp will show they're better than the ones that don't make the cut. There's enough competition with Brewer, Convington, Williams, Casspi & Young. We have a lot of interchangeable guards and forwards with these guys + Parsons, Harden & Garcia.

Surprising he would accept so little guarantee-- there's gotta be a significantly better deal for him from a team with less guys under contract, no? Maybe Ronnie is just this confident about beating out everyone, but it would be rational to consider these things.

This surprises me, as well. Is this a reliable source? Of course, I expect him to make the team, in which case it becomes a moot point. Well, I guess the point is that many teams are throwing guaranteed money at garbage like Chris Kaman and Nick Young whereas a guy who can be a good rotation player can only get $100K in guaranteed salary.

Any scrub would say that. I won't even say that cause I'm a superstar.

This is a shocker to me, when you consider my boy Covington is getting 150k guaranteed.

Yes, Mark Deeks (and his site, ShamSports.com) is a very reliable source. Given how his contract information has been pretty much 99.9% accurate (much more reliable than other credible salary sources like Hoopshype), my suspicion is that he has a source in the league office. (FYI, Mark posts occassionally on this BBS under the handle "Sham".)

Also, this is not the first place I've seen the $100,000 guarantee amount. I heard that figure from a reliable source a little while back but didn't want to say anything until it was confirmed elsewhere.

Regardless of the exact amount of all these guarantees, the best players will make the team. It's just money out of Les Alexander's pocket at this point. The Rockets are not expected to have any meaningful cap room this season or next; so it's all about putting the best 15-man roster together. Training camp cap considerations (a la the Rockets keeping Jonny Flynn over Jeremy Lin in 2011) will be immaterial this year.

Actually, Covington is getting $490,180 guaranteed this season AND $150,000 guaranteed NEXT season.

Brewer can get vet min for most other teams if he doesn't cut it here.

IMO, I'd like him as our primary wing back up. His O is poor, his shot is weird, but his D is tenacious & in Chicago he hit some big 3s.

He playing with Dwight or Omer, Parsons, Harden, and Bev or Lin had to account for arguably the toughest defensive 5. Dwight, Parsons, Brewer, Harden, Bev would be insanely difficult to score on.

Contrary to popular belief switching Lin with Beverley doesn't actually make your defense better by much.
