Who here travels for work? If so, how often do you travel, and where do you travel to? How does it affect your home life/social life? I just applied for a job that would require travel, but I feel as if I don't have a huge chance of getting the job. I like to travel, though, and the job/company sounds fairly rewarding for me.
I travel around 25%. It isthe perfect amount. Just enough to get out on the expense account and see some stuff, but not too much to where I wore out. Get into a routine for your travel. Prepack a bunch of stuff so you can be ready to go. I always just had to throw my prepacked toiletry clear plastic bag, my prepacked underwear bag in a suitcase with a couple of trousers and some dress shirts. Takes a lot of the stress out. If you have to travel with a laptop get the backpacks that you can separate with Velcro so you don't have to take the laptop out. Also, apply and manage all your travel programs, frequent flier stuff, hotel points, etc. to maximize the perks for when you travel for yourself. I haven't paid for a vacation in several years with the amount of points I keep up. Also check out all the government security stuff and apply...Global Entry, Pre Check, etc.
LeBron calls it a "crab walk" but it really IS travelling. I'd whistle it EVERY time were I an NBA ref.
I travel at least a few times a year for work and also for family and am sometimes gone more than a month. It can be disruptive on keeping a regular schedule. One of the biggest problems is taking care of pets. I have a cat and have friends help look after her but I would never get a dog because I am away so much.
I'm certified in all three. Having trouble finding a Rad Therapy job (don't live in Houston, and not ready to move yet). This is a CT-centered job.
I've traveled anywhere for 25 to 75 percent. I think 25 percent is perfect. Fifty is okay is okay, and 75 percent is way too much. That being said, when I traveled 75 percent, I went to some very cool places like Sydney, Beijing, Singapore and other metro centers, so it was a worthwhile experience. It was the constant jetlag that did me in.
same for me, traveled about 75-80% for 2 years. saw a lot of great places but burnt myself out in the process. i honestly felt like i aged 5-10 years in those 2 years. now i'm down to about 10%, basically physical meetings.
I travel for work on my part time job and its the ****iest thing ever. First 2-3 times, its cool. After that, **** life.
I travel 95% of the time. Have a corporate apartment in SF, and I pretty much live there on the client's dime. Home life is non-existent. Social life is people you meet in town and your co-workers. It'd suck if co-workers or the work is hostile. Overall, pretty cool thing to do if you're single, mobile, and want to see the outside world with someone else's money.
Go to London about 4 times a year for 5 days at a time. Go to Bermuda about 3 times a year for 3 days. Have to go to NYC 2-3 times for a few days each and then Dallas for day trips 8-9 times a year Stuck in meetings all day every time I go, so despite decent locations, the conference rooms all look the same
