Interesting. It ends up being about health, both for Gallo and Gordon.

Because a team like last years Rockets, or the Bucks this year don't necessarily need him to be a superstar player(well.... I'm sure the Bucks would LOVE one, but it doesn't seem like they are shooting for star of bust). The Bobcats either need a foundational player, or a group of players that help them at least stay competitive.

The Bobcats might change their model to that of last years Nuggets with a team identity, and a group of solid players where they play great as a unit.

MKG is going to be a good player, but he's not necessarily going to make them any better for another 2 or 3 years at least. I dont think Cho has another 2 years to wait around. He might be out of a job & the NBA could entice them to sell to Seattle here pretty soon if they dont get out of their historic lows here pretty soon.

Eric Gordon has what is probably one of the ten worst contracts in the league. He has what I refer to as negative trade value, which means a team would rather have nothing at all than Gordon at his price. The hope in New Orleans is that he pulls himself together and reverts back to being the very nice player he was a couple of years ago.

In other words, 0% chance he is getting traded for anything good. If he pulls himself together, we'll see.

But MKG's upside is why you think the Bucks would do that trade in the first place (and I agree on that aspect). It seems to me that both the Bucks and the Bobcats need to get one or two of those "foundational players."
Both of these teams need to take risks. And if it doesn't work, if MKG is just a solid starter, then the Bobcats can go and try to build the next Nuggets. Which is easier said than done.

In the end, again, it goes back to that premise that the Bobcats are ready to sacrifice their upside and chase the playoffs this year. Which I don't know that it's true, I suspect it's not.

If/when Daryl Morey makes his next big move to improve the team, it is going to involve the elements here, in this proposed deal. Those elements:

    1 Lin and/or Asik
2 Expendable young/cheap dudes perceived to have upside, namely, Donatas Motiejunas and/or Terrence Jones and/or Greg Smith
3 Possibly Rockets draft picks but Morey will try to hold on to his draft picks
4 One or more poorly managed teams; Milwaukee is a questionable organization, and Charlotte is a joke, so they qualify

The good organizations are good for a reason, and the bad organizations are bad for a reason. Many of you guys have played fantasy sports. Every fantasy league always has at least one owner who routinely makes stupid decisions and gets hosed in trades. His team always sucks. That's Charlotte. And every league has at least one owner that is constantly trying to hoodwink the bad owners, and is frequently successful. That's Houston, and Daryl Morey.

Gallinari has way too much value for the Nuggets to trade him.

Here is an example of what I'm talking about, which involves Milwaukee and Charlotte:

Omer Asik and Brandon Knight to Charlotte

Jeremy Lin, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, and Ramon Sessions (expiring contract) to Milwaukee

Ersan Ilyasova, a Bobcats second round pick, and Caron Butler (expiring contract) to Houston

Follow that up by trading Donatas Motiejunas or Terrence Jones to somebody for a lottery-protected first round pick.

That means you have to cut three guys, not four, in order to get the roster down to fifteen players. You hold on to Butler, at least until the trade deadline, just in case you decide to usehis expiring contract to make another trade before the deadline (e.g., Butler and Motiejunas or Jones for Steve Nash?). I say you cut Jordan Henriquez, Reggie Williams, and Omri Casspi. Here's what the roster would then look like:

    Starting lineup

    PG Patrick Beverly
    SG James Harden
    SF Chandler Parsons
    PF Ersan Ilyasova
    C Dwight Howard

    In the rotation

    Isaiah Canaan
    Greg Smith
    Terrence Jones
    Francisco Garcia or Ronnie Brewer

    End of the bench

    Francisco Garcia or Ronnie Brewer
    Marcus Camby
    Aaron Brooks
    Caron Butler

    Stashed in the Developmental League

    Robert Covington
    B.J. Young

    New Espn Insider-article...
...suggests Brandon Rush is a good fit for us, i've never seen him play, two bad injuries, but if he's really a better shooter and defender than Garcia and Brewer I'd take him. I think Utah would be willing to trade him, not sure what we could offer though.
They also say Asik could help Atlanta. If we could trade him for Millsap, Millsap seems like a great fit next to Howard with a great contract.

If Rush has recovered from his injury (I think it was an ACL tear) then he is a very good ballplayer and a big upgrade over Francisco Garcia and Ronnie Brewer and a great fit in Houston. If/when Houston trades Lin and/or Asik this season and gets back (in addition to a really good player like Ersan Ilyasova) a fairly large expiring contract (such as Caron Butler's $8 mil contract) then Houston can package a superfluous asset (such as the draft rights to the Greek kid or a relatively high second round pick) with that fairly large expiring contract and filler (e.g., Aaron Brooks and either Garcia or Brewer) for Rush and Marvin Williams (who wouldn't play). This would be an excellent championship-contending nine-man rotation:

    Starting lineup

    PG Patrick Beverly
    SG James Harden
    SF Chandler Parsons
    PF Ersan Ilyasova
    C Dwight Howard

    The rest of the rotation

    Isaiah Canaan
    Brandon Rush
    Greg Smith
    Donatas Motiejunas or Terrence Jones

The trade seems solid, but I'm not sure why Caron Butler would be at the end of our bench. He started 78 games on a 56-win Clippers team last year, and even if he has no place in our future, he's definitely good enough to be a key rotation cog on next year's team. He'd be a great 1-year addition as the "3rd wing", pushing Garcia to the more natural 4th wing role.

Butler is horrible on defense, injury-prone, and not especially good from three-point land. I think he'd get flipped somehow for a real upgrade over Garcia/Brewer, maybe Brandon Rush. Or a big upgrade at backup C, e.g., Marcin Gortat.

I know that Lowry didn't love McHale but at least he comes back to play for a high potential team. I don't see Lowry staying in Canada. Toronto is one of the teams that could use Lin and his marketability. Johnson is a nice fit at PF for us as well.

Toronto also gets Smith and Motiejunas. They unite the young Lituanian players and add Greg Smith for young depth with potential as well.

I think a Asik/Milsapp trade can go down by trade deadline,I mean Atlanta doesn't really have a C (horford is more of a PF) and Millsap would be a great fit, solid and really underrated and has good contract too.

Kevin Love, LaMarcus Aldridge, or Al Horford.. Otherwise, no deal. We save that cap space for next off-season when Asik and Lin's contracts will be expiring 1-year deals which will be valuable trade assets or easy to dump at the least to chase FA's in 2014 or 2015.

This team, I feel, is a solid point guard away from contending this year. What we need is Andre Miller. We can give him for Aaron Brooks.

So we trade our starting point guard & power forward, plus our best pick'n'roll bench guy for a draft bust a point guard who can't shoot beyond 15 feet & help Denver get Kevin Love for basically nothing?

Wilson Chandler & Andre Miller for Kevin Love?

    Not sure if serious...
